Tim Kaine Defends Democrat Who Fantasized About Political Assassination

Virginia senator refuses to pull support for Jay Jones despite shocking texts about killing opponent’s child.

In a moment that perfectly encapsulates the modern Democratic Party’s moral decay, Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) went on national television Sunday and refused to condemn or even distance himself from a fellow Democrat who once fantasized about the death of a political opponent’s child.

Kaine, appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press, was asked about explosive text messages sent by Democratic attorney general nominee Jay Jones, in which Jones said that then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert would only change his political beliefs if he and his wife were forced to watch their young child die.

Let that sink in.

Rather than withdraw his endorsement, Kaine stood by Jones and claimed he would treat a Republican in the same position the same way a claim that lacks all credibility given the left’s track record of demanding Republican resignations over far less.

“Absolutely not,” Kaine said when pressed. “These are fair items for voters to consider as they cast their vote, but no, we’re not calling for Republicans to drop out of races.”

He even tried to draw a false moral equivalency, citing a Republican candidate’s pro-life comment from three years ago in which she said abortion was murder and that “your time will come,” a clear reference to judgment, not violence.

Jones, under fire, issued a hollow, robotic apology during his recent debate with Republican AG Jason Miyares. Even Democrats weren’t buying it. Former First Lady Jill Biden’s spokesman Michael LaRosa slammed the performance as “a disaster,” saying Jones “lacked any emotion whatsoever” and simply pivoted to Trump.

So here we are. A Democrat openly discussed the murder of a political opponent’s child, and party leaders like Tim Kaine think a limp apology and a few years of distance make it go away.

This is what the Democratic Party stands for today:

  • Excusing threats of political violence if the person involved votes the right way.

  • Moral relativism, where private text fantasies about death are forgiven, but pro-life comments are vilified.

  • Unflinching hypocrisy, as they demand Republicans drop out for tweets, jokes, or policy views but shield their own from any real consequences.

And let’s not forget the math: Tim Kaine claimed he’s “known Jay Jones for 25 years.” Jones is 36 years old, meaning Kaine has supposedly had a close relationship with him since he was 11. Either Kaine is stretching the truth for political cover, or the Democratic bench is so thin they’re scraping the bottom to justify their loyalty.

The Jones scandal isn’t just about one unhinged candidate it’s about a party that no longer draws red lines. If a Republican had sent those same texts, the media would be on fire and the DNC would be staging protests outside his home.

But because it’s a Democrat? Silence. Deflection. Excuses.

There is no "both sides" here. There's only one party normalizing political violence while preaching "unity."
