‘The View’ Defends Biden’s Pardon, Blames Trump for Criticism

Goldberg and Hostin dismiss Biden’s dishonesty, double down on partisan attacks.

The hosts of ABC’s “The View” spent another episode staunchly defending President Joe Biden’s unprecedented pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, from any and all federal crimes he may have committed over an 11-year period. Cohosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin attacked critics both Republican and Democrat while framing Biden’s controversial move as a pragmatic decision and deflecting blame onto President-elect Donald Trump.

The Defense:

  • Goldberg’s Argument: Whoopi Goldberg dismissed any criticism of Biden’s sweeping pardon, claiming that because presidential pardons are within Biden’s rights, they shouldn’t be questioned. “It is his right, and he doesn’t have to explain to anybody,” Goldberg insisted, adding that continued scrutiny was “hurtful for the American people.”

  • Sunny Hostin’s Take: Hostin echoed Goldberg’s sentiment, arguing that Biden didn’t lie when he repeatedly claimed he wouldn’t pardon Hunter, but instead showed he was “the pragmatic president we always knew.”

Blaming Trump:

Rather than addressing Biden’s blatant reversal, the cohosts pivoted to attack President-elect Donald Trump, deflecting attention from Biden’s actions. Hostin declared that discussions about Biden’s honesty were irrelevant, saying, “If we want to talk about LYING, let’s talk about THAT [Trump] and stop this PEARL-CLUTCHING about Joe Biden lying!”

Internal Backlash:

Goldberg also took aim at Democrats criticizing the pardon, accusing them of creating an “internal firing squad.” She argued that Democrats should rally around Biden, claiming, “You can’t let people tell you you’re not taking the moral ground when we take the moral ground all the time,” listing progressive causes like migrant rights and LGBTQ+ issues as proof.

The Broader Picture:

The pardon has sparked fierce debate, with even some Democrats expressing discomfort over its unprecedented scope and the president’s dishonesty. NBC News revealed that Biden’s team had been planning the pardon since June, even as Biden publicly denied any intention to pardon his son a calculated move to mislead the public.

“The View’s” defense of Biden highlights a growing trend in liberal media: reframing glaring contradictions as virtue, while dismissing critics as either partisan hacks or unwitting allies of Donald Trump. For everyday Americans, this kind of narrative manipulation only further erodes trust in both the media and the Democratic Party.
