Democrat Retreats on Impeachment Vote After Backlash from His Own Party

In a clear sign that the Democrats' war on Donald Trump is unraveling from within, Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) was forced to abandon his effort to force a House vote on impeaching President Trump, after members of his own party turned on him in a rare public rebuke.

Just hours before the House was expected to take action, Thanedar took to X to announce he was backing down. His resolution, which included seven articles of impeachment ranging from tariffs to deportations and Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was already on shaky ground. Then came the flood of bipartisan opposition, and Thanedar folded.

“This wasn’t about defending the Constitution. It was about a desperate politician trying to save his primary chances,” one Democrat staffer reportedly told Axios.

Even Democratic leadership lined up against him. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Whip Katherine Clark both told colleagues they would vote to table the resolution. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) received applause after slamming the effort as “idiotic” and “horrible.” Privately, Thanedar’s own colleagues reportedly called him a “dumbs***” and “utterly selfish.”

The move was never about upholding law or order it was about personal political survival. Thanedar, who is facing tough primary challenges, launched his impeachment stunt after fellow Squad member Rashida Tlaib endorsed one of his rivals.

And the cherry on top? One of Thanedar’s newly added “impeachable offenses” included Trump’s acceptance of a $400 million jet from Qatar a legal, transparent, and taxpayer-saving gift that’s been fully disclosed and celebrated abroad.

“This is not about any one person or party,” Thanedar claimed in his backpedaling post. “It is about defending America, our Constitution, and Rule of Law.”

No, it wasn’t. It was about chasing headlines and failing miserably.

President Trump was quick to torch the move as yet another example of Democrat derangement:

“They have already got two ‘No Name,’ little respected Congressmen, total Whackjobs both, throwing the ‘Impeachment’ of DONALD J. TRUMP around, for about the 20th time,” Trump said on X. “They have no idea for what I would be Impeached.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) didn’t hold back either, calling it an abuse of the Constitution and another “embarrassing political stunt.”

“While Democrats are throwing fits, impeding law enforcement, playing political games... Republicans are working to deliver lower taxes, restore American energy dominance, and strengthen border security,” Johnson said.

The bottom line? Even Democrats are sick of their own impeachment circus. The American people are fed up with political games and witch hunts that waste time and taxpayer dollars while real issues go ignored from inflation and crime to an open border and global instability.

With Trump steamrolling toward the 2024 election, Democrats are falling apart and they know it.
