Texas DMV Registers Vehicles for Illegal Immigrants

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is under fire after it was revealed that the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles has been registering vehicles for illegal immigrants a move many see as directly contradicting the state’s stance on border security.

Republican State Representative Brian Harrison blew the whistle in a letter to the Texas DMV Board and to Governor Abbott, calling out a dangerous and largely unknown loophole that’s allowing illegal aliens to register vehicles without having a Texas driver’s license.

“Texas should be leading the fight against illegal immigration, not incentivizing it,” Harrison wrote in a Nov. 3 letter. “This is unacceptable.”

According to Harrison, DMV officials have confirmed they are registering vehicles for illegal immigrants a claim the governor’s office denies. Abbott spokesperson Andrew Mahaleris responded by insisting that illegal aliens are not being given permission to drive on Texas roads. But that’s not what’s in question here. The issue isn’t licenses it’s registrations. And right now, illegals are legally registering cars in Texas and driving anyway, insured or not.

• Illegals are registering vehicles with Texas plates despite being in the country unlawfully and ineligible for driver’s licenses.

• The Texas DMV has acknowledged the practice continues as they review what options are available to close the gap.

• Federal agents arrested over 120 illegal alien drivers in one day last month in Texas alone, many of them uninsured and unlicensed.

And it gets worse. Illegal immigrant truck drivers with questionable commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) are still being caught on American highways, contributing to deadly accidents and undermining public safety. ICE has launched recent crackdowns on non-domiciled foreign CDL holders following a rise in fatal crashes.

This revelation could not come at a worse time for Governor Abbott, who has built his political brand on being tough on the border. While he’s launched Operation Lone Star and made noise about fighting Biden’s open border policies, these DMV loopholes paint a very different picture one of bureaucratic failure and policy disconnect.

It’s hard to claim you're fighting illegal immigration when your own state is enabling it through administrative back doors. Texans deserve clarity, accountability, and an immediate fix. Otherwise, this becomes just another example of Republicans talking tough while the system quietly surrenders to the left's lawless agenda.

This is a wake-up call for every conservative in the country. The battle for the rule of law isn’t just happening at the border it’s happening in our DMV offices too.
