DNC Speakers Include Teachers Union Heads Who Fought for COVID School Closures
Randi Weingarten and Becky Pringle Double Down on Failed Policies, Endorse Harris-Walz Ticket.
In a display of radicalism, the leaders of America's two largest teachers unions, Randi Weingarten and Becky Pringle, took center stage at the Democratic National Convention, extolling the virtues of the Harris-Walz ticket while glossing over their own disastrous record during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation for Teachers, stood before the DNC crowd, leveling baseless accusations against Donald Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, claiming they’re “anti-child” for opposing the radical left’s education agenda. Weingarten, who has repeatedly come under fire for her role in keeping schools closed long after it was safe to reopen, conveniently omitted her own contribution to the learning loss crisis that has devastated millions of American students.
Key points from the teachers union leaders’ speeches:
Weingarten falsely claimed she fought to keep schools open during the pandemic, despite her union’s vehement opposition to reopening efforts led by the Trump administration. Her union's stance contributed to prolonged school closures that research shows caused significant academic setbacks for students across the country.
Becky Pringle, president of the National Education Association, followed with more radical rhetoric, describing a need to transform the public education system into a "racially and socially just and equitable system." Pringle’s union has been a major financial backer of far-left politicians, funneling $1 million into Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's re-election campaign last year.
Pringle praised Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’ running mate, despite his administration’s draconian COVID-19 lockdowns and his misleading claims about his own achievements in education and the military.
Pringle and Weingarten’s speeches highlight the dangerous agenda they continue to push on America’s students—an agenda that prioritizes ideology over education. Under their leadership, teachers unions have become political machines, pouring millions into the campaigns of left-wing politicians while pushing to keep classrooms closed and inject divisive politics into the curriculum.
As the 2024 election looms, voters must ask themselves whether they want leaders like Harris and Walz, who are in lockstep with these union bosses, dictating the future of America’s children. The stakes could not be higher.
