Ahmad Umar Agha, 32, was sentenced Thursday to 42 months in prison for hacking on behalf of former Syrian president Bashar Assad's regime, the Justice Department said, Agence France-Presse reports. Agha and co-conspirators hacked Western media outlets, businesses, nongovernmental organizations and U.S. and allied government entities "to spread the former Syrian government's propaganda," the department said. Assistant Attorney General John Eisenberg said Agha worked to "silence reporting on the regime's atrocities."
