Stephanopoulos Melts Down After Trump Blames Democrats for Assassination Attempts

The left's extreme rhetoric against Trump is fueling dangerous consequences.

ABC News host George Stephanopoulos had a meltdown during an interview this past weekend after former President Donald Trump and his son pointed the finger at Democrats for recent assassination attempts targeting the former president. Stephanopoulos, a former Clinton administration insider and lifelong Democrat, couldn’t contain his outrage as he grilled House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-CA) about the claims.

The heated exchange took place when Stephanopoulos asked Johnson about Trump’s accusations that Democrats were connected to two assassination attempts. One of the assailants had previously donated to far-left causes, and the other had a long history of contributing to Democratic campaigns.

“Is it right for the president and his family to suggest that Democrats are behind the effort to assassinate him?” Stephanopoulos pressed.

Johnson calmly responded: “I don’t think they’re saying that the Democrat Party tried an assassination attempt. What they’re alluding to is what we’ve all been saying. They’ve got to turn the rhetoric down.”

For years, prominent Democrats have labeled Trump a "threat to democracy," fueling widespread hysteria. The narrative that America’s republic would collapse if Trump won in 2024 has been pushed relentlessly by Democrat leaders, contributing to an environment of hostility and violence.

Johnson explained the dangerous consequences of this rhetoric:

  • Leading Democrats have demonized Trump to the point of inciting violence.

  • The left's unrelenting attacks on Trump since 2016 have emboldened extremists.

  • Massive public support at Trump rallies signals a rejection of these divisive tactics.

Stephanopoulos, however, wasn’t satisfied. He continued to badger Johnson, demanding a clear answer on whether he supported Trump’s statements. Johnson deflected, pointing out that dangerous rhetoric flows both ways, especially from leading Democrats.

“I could give you pages and pages of crazy comments by the leading Democrats in this country,” Johnson remarked. “That’s not what this is about. We have to talk about the greatest collection of challenges that this country is facing probably since World War II, maybe the Civil War.”

Despite Johnson’s attempts to refocus the conversation on the critical issues facing the nation, Stephanopoulos refused to let go of his narrative, harping on the Trump family's remarks for several more minutes before finally moving on.

With the 2024 elections looming, the stakes have never been higher. The left’s relentless demonization of Donald Trump isn't just an attack on one man; it's an attack on the millions of Americans who support him and his vision for a stronger America.

If this dangerous rhetoric continues unchecked, the consequences will only grow worse.
