House Speaker Johnson Affirms U.S. Support for Israel in Jerusalem Visit
During Jerusalem visit, Johnson reaffirms U.S.-Israel alliance as Democrats waver on support.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) sent a clear message from Jerusalem this weekend: the United States must always stand with Israel no matter the political winds back in Washington.
Visiting the Western Wall on Tisha B’Av, the sacred Jewish day of mourning for the destruction of the First and Second Temples, Johnson offered prayers and a powerful public declaration of support “Our prayer is that America will always stand with Israel and we pray for the preservation and peace of Jerusalem. That’s what scripture tells us to do, it’s a matter of faith for us, and a commitment that we have.”
Johnson is leading a congressional delegation during the House’s August recess, a trip that had originally been postponed in June due to rising tensions with Iran. His remarks and presence in Israel come at a pivotal moment as some Democrats in the Senate grow increasingly hostile toward the Jewish state, even attempting to block arms sales to help Israel defend itself against Hamas and Iranian-backed terror proxies.
The Speaker’s visit also follows President Donald Trump’s acknowledgment of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, noting the “real starvation” occurring while still making it clear that Hamas is to blame for hijacking aid and hiding behind civilians. U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Ambassador Mike Huckabee recently spent five hours inside Gaza to assess the facts and advise President Trump on next steps for getting humanitarian aid to innocent civilians, without empowering terrorists.
“We’re so moved by the hospitality of the people and the great love of Israel,” Johnson said. “It is a moving time for us to be here at the Wailing Wall. We’ve offered our prayers. We put our notes into the wall as is traditional.”
Johnson’s message was echoed by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who thanked the Speaker and the U.S. delegation for their unwavering support “Israel is not only fighting for its survival – we are on the frontlines of the free world’s battle against radical Islamic ideologies.”
Katz referenced ongoing military operations against Iran’s growing threats and praised the U.S.-Israel alliance as rooted in shared values of liberty, justice, and the uncompromising defense of freedom.
Key Takeaways:
Over 70% of Americans support continued U.S. backing of Israel, according to Pew Research.
Democrat efforts to block arms sales to Israel have gained traction, showing a sharp ideological shift within the party.
Speaker Johnson’s visit sends a strong reminder that U.S. leadership doesn’t have to waver in the face of radical terror.
While far-Left members of Congress continue to demonize Israel, Speaker Johnson and his colleagues are demonstrating real moral clarity and leadership on the world stage. It's a reminder that in a dangerous world, America must stand firmly with its allies especially the only democracy in the Middle East.
