Spanberger Talks Moderate But Voted Far-Left in Congress
Virginia Democrat’s record reveals radical stances on crime, immigration, and energy despite centrist campaign rhetoric.

Democrat Abigail Spanberger wants Virginians to believe she’s a moderate as she runs for governor but her voting record tells an entirely different story. Despite portraying herself as someone who opposes “extremism,” the former congresswoman spent her time in Washington siding with the far-left wing of her party on crime, immigration, energy, and national security.
A recent analysis from the Institute for Legislative Analysis dismantles Spanberger’s centrist image.
“Our analysis makes one thing clear: Abigail Spanberger’s voting record is consistently more aligned with the far-left wing of the Democratic Party,” said ILA CEO Ryan McGowan.
Let’s look at the facts.
On Crime:
Voted against a bill that would block D.C. from charging 24-year-old violent offenders as juveniles a measure supported by police unions.
Opposed Congressional action to overturn D.C.’s pro-crime “reform” that lowered penalties for crimes like homicide and carjacking even President Biden supported blocking it.
On Immigration:
Voted against the Laken Riley Act, which would require feds to detain violent illegal immigrants.
Opposed the Schools Not Shelters Act, which would prevent housing illegal immigrants near schools.
Rejected the Protecting our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act, a bill aimed at cutting off federal funding for illegal migrant shelters a bill that even far-left Democrats supported.
On the debate stage, Spanberger claimed she would never let Virginia become a sanctuary state but then hedged, saying counties could decide for themselves. Virginia’s most heavily Democrat-run counties also happen to house most of the illegal immigrant population.
On Energy:
Opposed a bill protecting gas stoves from a federal ban a Biden policy so unpopular the White House later backtracked.
Backed amendments to shut down oil and gas production on federal lands, and voted against restocking the Strategic Petroleum Reserve positions that even AOC and the Squad didn’t fully endorse.
On National Security:
Supported labeling the Houthis a terrorist group but opposed measures to protect the U.S. from Chinese spying.
Voted against the DOJ’s anti-CCP spying initiative, even as Democrat Eric Swalwell of Fang Fang fame supported it.
Opposed legislation that would restrict Chinese Confucius Institutes from infiltrating American schools.
On Government Waste:
Voted against the USE IT Act, a common-sense bill to force the government to sell off buildings sitting more than 40% empty.
Opposed reining in wasteful Pentagon spending, even when it came from Squad member Pramila Jayapal.
Spanberger is now dodging questions about fellow Democrat and Attorney General candidate Jay Jones, who recently came under fire for texts fantasizing about murdering Republicans and desecrating their graves. Instead of taking a stand, she blamed Republicans for the texts coming to light.
“She lacks courage,” said Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, Spanberger’s GOP opponent.
Let’s not forget the Democrat-controlled House of Delegates in Virginia is now led by a convicted crack dealer, Speaker Don Scott. And if Spanberger wins, she’ll be signing their legislation not vetoing it like Governor Glenn Youngkin has done hundreds of times to stop radical policies from becoming law.
While Virginia Democrats pretend to be centrist to win elections, their records and their associations tell the truth.
Abigail Spanberger talks like a moderate, but she votes like a radical. Virginians should believe her actions, not her empty campaign slogans.
