Arsonist Who Targeted Pennsylvania Governor Driven by Anti-Israel Hatred

New details reveal suspect’s attack on Gov. Josh Shapiro was politically motivated and planned as retaliation against perceived support for Israel.

In a chilling act of domestic terrorism, 38-year-old Cody Balmer has been arrested for attempting to burn down the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion while Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family were sleeping inside. The motivation? Balmer's self-declared hatred for Israel and Shapiro’s support for the Jewish state.

According to a 911 call placed by Balmer shortly after the early morning attack, he explicitly stated he would not participate in what he called Shapiro’s “plans for what he wants to do to the Palestinian people.” Police noted Balmer sounded like he was reading from a script, underscoring the premeditated nature of the attack.

The facts are disturbing and point to a clear political and ideological motive:

  • Balmer admitted he planned to beat Gov. Shapiro with a hammer if he encountered him.

  • He reportedly threw two Molotov cocktails into the governor’s mansion after walking an hour with homemade explosives made from gasoline and Heineken bottles.

  • The incident occurred just hours after Shapiro's family celebrated Passover, suggesting the timing may have been intentionally symbolic.

Investigators say Balmer’s hatred was driven by his perception of injustice toward Palestinians and because of Shapiro’s Jewish faith. A search warrant cited these motivations but stopped short of confirming a religious hate crime.

Inside a storage unit linked to Balmer, police found stickers of Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara, a figure frequently glorified by the radical left. The suspect, who faces charges including attempted homicide, aggravated arson, terrorism, and burglary, may face over 100 years in prison.

While some are already trying to paint Balmer as mentally ill his mother claims he had stopped taking his medication the disturbing level of detail and ideological justification in his confession tells a different story. This was not just the act of a disturbed individual. It was politically driven violence.

The suspect had a documented history of domestic abuse, including assaulting his wife and children in 2023. In one incident, Balmer reportedly punched his wife, hit his son, and stepped on another son’s broken leg. That case is still ongoing.

Despite this violent past, Balmer was free to roam the streets and plan an attack on a sitting governor. Where was the preventive action? Where was the mental health monitoring the left always promises but never delivers?

Let’s be clear: this attack wasn’t just on a governor it was on democratic stability, on faith, and on those who dare to support Israel in the face of growing radical extremism. And it happened right here in America, on our soil.

As this investigation continues, we must ask hard questions: How many more Balmer-style extremists are out there, radicalized by leftist ideologies and emboldened by a culture that excuses anti-Semitism under the guise of activism?
