Senator Mullin Slams Hypocritical Democrats in Fiery Hegseth Hearing

Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) set the Senate Armed Services Committee ablaze on Tuesday, torching his Democratic colleagues for their blatant hypocrisy while questioning Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth. In a rare moment of raw honesty, Mullin didn’t just defend Hegseth he exposed the senators themselves as unqualified hypocrites.

• Qualifications? Mullin pointed out that the only legal requirement for a Defense Secretary is to be a civilian (or retired military with a congressional waiver). He then reminded the committee that they had no problem waiving that rule for Biden’s Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin a former Raytheon board member.

• Personal scandals? Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) questioned Hegseth’s past marital issues, but Mullin fired back, asking: “How many senators have shown up drunk to vote at night?” Laughter erupted in the chamber.

• Moral high ground? Mullin blasted senators for ignoring their own scandals, saying, “How many senators do you know have gotten a divorce before cheating on their wives? Did you ask them to step down? No, but it’s for show.”

Mullin didn’t just call out his colleagues he made it personal, reflecting on his own mistakes and the redemption that comes through faith and family. Turning to Hegseth’s wife, Jennifer, he credited her for standing by her husband, adding, “The only reason why I’m here and not in prison is because my wife loved me, too.”

The moment ended with applause, an unusual occurrence in a Senate hearing. But Mullin’s message was clear: The same Democrats who refuse to hold themselves accountable are in no position to judge a decorated veteran like Hegseth.
