International Criminal Court Sanctions Bill Blocked by Senate Democrats

Senate Democrats once again sided against Israel on Tuesday, blocking legislation that would have imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) after it issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders last year.

The vote, which required 60 votes to advance, failed at 54-45 after nearly every Democrat opposed it except for Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who broke ranks and slammed the ICC’s actions as “unacceptable.”

The ICC, a globalist court with a well-documented anti-Israel bias, issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, outrageously equating them with Hamas terrorists.

• Republicans pushed for sanctions to hold the ICC accountable for its politically motivated targeting of Israeli leaders.

• Democrats blocked the bill, despite Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) himself admitting that the ICC’s anti-Israel bias has “become too much.”

• The ICC’s actions set a dangerous precedent, potentially allowing American soldiers to be targeted next.

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-WY) questioned the Democrats’ motives: “Republicans are holding the ICC accountable with sanctions. Democrats are blocking us. Why?”

Sen. John Thune (R-SD), who led the push to bring the bill to the floor, warned that while the ICC is targeting Israeli leaders today, it could easily set its sights on Americans particularly U.S. soldiers tomorrow.

This isn’t the first time Democrats have protected the ICC’s outrageous, politically motivated actions.

• The House passed the bill last year, but the Democrat-controlled Senate refused to act.

• The House passed it again this year, only for Senate Democrats to block it once more.

• President Joe Biden has opposed the bill from the start, signaling that even if it had passed, he likely would have vetoed it.

Once again, Democrats have put globalist institutions above our allies and our own national interests. By blocking this bill, they have sent a message to the ICC that its anti-Israel bias will go unpunished and that America’s enemies are free to weaponize international courts against us.
