Man Shot by Secret Service Near White House Amid ‘Armed Confrontation’

The suspect reportedly traveled to D.C. amid concerns over his mental state.

Early Sunday morning, U.S. Secret Service personnel shot an armed man near the White House after an intense confrontation, the agency confirmed. The suspect had parked his vehicle near 17th and F Streets NW just outside an entrance to the White House and Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

President Donald Trump was not in Washington, D.C., at the time, as he was spending the weekend at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

According to a statement from the Secret Service:

  • The individual had been flagged by local law enforcement as potentially suicidal and had reportedly traveled from Indiana.

  • Upon locating his parked vehicle near the White House, agents spotted a man matching the description.

  • As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, prompting an “armed confrontation” during which Secret Service personnel opened fire.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital, and his condition remains unknown. Fortunately, no Secret Service agents were harmed in the incident.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is now investigating the shooting, as is standard procedure in law enforcement-related shootings in Washington, D.C.

While Democrats continue to push for defunding police and weakening law enforcement, incidents like this prove that a strong, well-equipped security force is necessary to keep our leaders and our nation safe. Share this article or subscribe to our newsletter for updates.
