Second Deadly Strike Hits Riyadh Airport Terminal
A week of Houthi attacks on Saudi airports has killed at least 20 people, CBS News reports, and Riyadh's airport stays closed.
Saudi Arabia confirmed Sunday that a projectile struck a passenger terminal at Riyadh airport, killing one person and injuring 11, The Associated Press reports. That came a day after strikes by the Iran-aligned Houthis killed 12 people and wounded more than 300 in the same terminal. CBS News puts Saturday's toll at 13, including a U.S. citizen, and reports the airport has been closed since Saturday as President Trump considers U.S. strikes in Yemen.
CBS News reports the Houthis claimed responsibility for the attacks, and that Saturday's missile strike was the deadliest in a Gulf Arab nation since the Iran war began. The airport has been hit four times in the past five days, CBS reports. In all, at least 20 people have died in a week of Houthi attacks on Saudi airports: three on Oct. 6 and 7 at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport, three at King Khalid on Oct. 8, 13 on Saturday and one on Sunday.
The U.S. embassy in Saudi Arabia on Monday urged American citizens to use extreme caution at all major airports in the country, CBS reports. The attacks have also pushed oil prices back up.
President Trump said Saturday he was considering whether to join Saudi strikes against the rebels, Just Security reports. The Houthis reported two airstrikes on Sanaa, Yemen's capital, and the Houthi-run Health Ministry says 91 Yemenis have been killed and 168 injured by the Saudi-led coalition in five weeks. Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia on Monday condemned the airport attacks as a dangerous escalation that cannot be justified, according to Just Security.
