Savannah Guthrie Appeals for Mother’s Safe Return After Suspected Abduction
Authorities investigate possible kidnapping near Tucson as Today Show host asks for prayers.

A deeply unsettling case is unfolding in southern Arizona, where the mother of co-host of NBC’s, is believed to have been abducted from her home over the weekend.
Authorities in say they are treating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie as a serious crime. Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that investigators are pursuing a “possible kidnapping or abduction” just outside, in the Catalina Foothills area.
According to law enforcement, Nancy Guthrie was reported missing Sunday after a friend from church contacted her family when she failed to show up for services. Her phone, wallet, and car were all found inside her home an alarming detail that quickly escalated concern.
As the investigation intensified, sources told that blood was discovered inside the residence. Sheriff Nanos later confirmed that potential DNA evidence is being tested, though results could take several days. The also reported signs of forced entry at the home.
Sheriff Nanos emphasized that while early statements suggested Nancy was taken from her bed, that description was figurative, not literal. What is clear, he said, is that investigators believe a crime occurred.
As facts remain limited, Savannah Guthrie turned to faith and the public for support. In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram late Monday, she asked for prayers for her mother’s safe return.
“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope,” Guthrie wrote. “Above all, we believe in Him.”
She described her mother as “a woman of deep conviction” and quoted Scripture before ending with a simple plea: “Bring her home.”
Authorities have stated that Nancy Guthrie is not in good physical health, though she has no cognitive impairments and is considered mentally sharp. Law enforcement has not determined whether she was targeted because of her daughter’s public profile and said there are no known threats against Savannah Guthrie herself.
At this time, officials say they do not believe the general public is in danger. Still, Sheriff Nanos issued a direct appeal to the community:
Anyone who saw or heard something unusual in the Catalina Foothills area is urged to come forward
Tips can be directed to local authorities or by calling 911
Even small details may prove critical in preventing a tragic outcome
A press conference is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon to provide updates as the investigation continues.
This case serves as a sobering reminder that even well-known families are not immune to sudden tragedy and that community awareness and vigilance can make a decisive difference.
