Russia Unleashes Largest Drone Assault on Ukraine Amid Trump’s Renewed Pressure

Putin defies peace efforts with massive attack as Trump signals tougher stance and weapons aid restart.

Russia just launched its largest drone and missile attack yet against Ukraine a staggering overnight barrage involving 741 aerial vehicles, according to Ukrainian officials. This dramatic escalation comes just days after former President Donald Trump voiced his disappointment in Vladimir Putin and confirmed the U.S. would resume weapons shipments to Ukraine.

If there was any doubt about who still calls the shots on the world stage, this makes it clear: Putin is watching Trump closely, and the Kremlin’s response to renewed American resolve was instant and violent.

  • 728 drones and 13 missiles were launched, with Ukraine claiming to have neutralized 711 drones and 7 missiles.

  • At least 10 Ukrainian cities were hit, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Dnipro, and Zhytomyr.

  • June alone saw over 5,438 drones and 239 missiles launched by Russia making it the most aggressive month of the war.

The primary target was the northwestern Volyn region, home to the city of Lutsk, but the attack rippled across the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the assault as a direct rejection of recent peace initiatives, claiming it proves Russia has no interest in ceasefires or negotiations.

"This is a telling attack," Zelensky said. "Only Russia continues to rebuff peace efforts. This is yet another proof of the need for biting sanctions especially on oil."

Zelensky has renewed his push for stronger secondary sanctions targeting countries that continue buying Russian oil effectively propping up Moscow’s war machine.

And while the Biden administration continues to drag its feet, issue statements, and pretend diplomacy will tame dictators, Trump is already showing what leadership looks like.

On Monday, Trump told reporters: “They are getting hit very hard… We’re gonna have to send more weapons.” He added, “I’m disappointed, frankly, that President Putin hasn’t stopped.”

This marks a stark contrast to Biden’s confusing, slow-walk approach to foreign aid where U.S. weapons shipments have been repeatedly paused over concerns about optics and domestic supplies. Meanwhile, Russia takes full advantage of the indecision.

It’s not just one-sided. Ukraine launched its own retaliatory strikes on Tuesday night, with Russia claiming to have shot down 86 Ukrainian drones, including four over Moscow. Flights at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport were temporarily grounded.

Zelensky is now ramping up his calls to U.S. defense officials, stating Ukraine is preparing “formats for meetings” with American military and political teams to secure additional aid, especially air defense systems.

What’s happening here is simple: Putin is testing the West and Trump just called his bluff. After years of watching Biden’s weakness embolden dictators, the world may finally be seeing a return to serious leadership.
