Marco Rubio Sworn In as Secretary of State, Pledges to End Ukraine War

The Trump administration prioritizes peace and stability in global conflicts.

Marco Rubio took office as the 72nd U.S. Secretary of State on Tuesday, following a unanimous 99-0 confirmation vote by the Senate. Sworn in by Vice President JD Vance on Inauguration Day, Rubio wasted no time outlining his priorities, with a clear focus on ending the devastating war between Russia and Ukraine.

“It’s going to be the official policy of the United States that the war in Ukraine needs to come to an end,” Rubio stated during an interview with CBS Mornings. This aligns with President Donald Trump’s campaign promise to resolve the nearly three-year conflict within his first 24 hours in office.

Rubio described the war as a destructive stalemate that has exacted a massive toll:

  • Humanitarian Crisis: Millions of Ukrainians have been displaced, creating one of the largest refugee crises in modern history.

  • Devastation in Ukraine: Key infrastructure, particularly energy systems, has been ravaged.

  • Global Instability: The prolonged conflict has exacerbated tensions across Europe and beyond.

“We want to do everything we can to help it end,” Rubio said, emphasizing the Trump administration’s commitment to brokering a sustainable peace. “We don’t just want the conflict to end and then restart in two, three, four years down the road. We want to bring stability.”

Rubio highlighted that under Trump’s leadership, the State Department will prioritize the United States while promoting peace globally. “The priority of the Department of State of the United States is going to be the United States,” Rubio told Today.

This pragmatic approach marks a stark departure from the aimless globalism of previous administrations, focusing instead on clear objectives:

  • Securing peace in Ukraine without reigniting future conflicts.

  • Strengthening alliances with strategic partners, such as the QUAD nations (Australia, India, Japan, and the U.S.).

  • Addressing pressing global issues with a resolute, America-centric strategy.

Rubio will meet with the foreign ministers of QUAD member countries on his first day, signaling the administration’s intent to strengthen ties with key allies.

As President Trump and Secretary Rubio embark on this critical mission, their leadership promises a decisive and results-oriented foreign policy. Their shared vision aims to restore stability and ensure that America’s interests are front and center on the world stage.
