17 Red States Move to Ban Foreign Cash from Influencing Elections
As left-wing dark money floods ballot initiatives with foreign-linked funds, Republican states are stepping up to protect democracy.

Seventeen Republican-led states are taking a stand where Washington refuses: shutting down foreign interference in American elections this time, by targeting the shadowy funding of state ballot initiatives.
From Texas to Wyoming, red states are moving quickly to block foreign nationals from funneling millions into U.S. ballot issue campaigns an area federal law shockingly fails to regulate. So far, five states Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and Wyoming have passed new laws. Another six have advanced legislation through at least one legislative chamber, according to Americans for Public Trust (APT).
And here's the kicker: every single one of these 17 states is Republican-led.
“Without closing this foreign influence loophole, states are leaving their public policy open to being influenced by foreign interests,” APT warned.
Federal law prohibits foreign nationals from donating to candidates or PACs but ballot measures? That’s an open lane for foreign billionaires and globalist NGOs to bankroll radical left-wing policy in your state. And that’s exactly what they’ve been doing.
APT singles out the Sixteen Thirty Fund, a dark-money machine that poured $410 million into the 2020 election cycle, almost exclusively to benefit Democrats. Funded by Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss, who contributed an estimated $280 million, the group has funneled $130 million into ballot issue campaigns in 26 states.
That includes:
$33 million in Michigan
$20 million in Ohio
$17 million in Florida
$13 million in Missouri
$11 million in Colorado
$7 million in Nebraska and Nevada
Their focus? Pushing liberal pet projects like abortion expansion, election manipulation, minimum wage hikes, paid sick leave, and tax increases all under the radar, and without a single vote cast in Congress.
This is how the left circumvents democracy: they use foreign money to buy ballot initiatives, change the law through referendum, and hide their donors behind complex webs of nonprofits. Meanwhile, they scream “foreign interference” anytime a Facebook post from Russia appears online.
Let’s be honest: this isn’t about protecting democracy it’s about controlling it.
Thankfully, red states are fighting back. These new laws close the loophole, stop foreign actors from funding ballot initiatives, and ensure that state policy reflects the will of the American people not global elites.
It’s no surprise that not a single Democrat-led state has introduced similar legislation. The left benefits from this loophole, and they’ll do everything they can to keep it open.
The fight to protect our elections isn’t just about the ballot box anymore it’s about defending state sovereignty from foreign influence and dark-money manipulation. And once again, it’s Republican leadership doing the job D.C. refuses to.
