Raskin Threatens Foreign Governments Over Trump Ties

Democrat warns U.S. allies of retaliation “when we come back to power,” sparking backlash from GOP leaders.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) has issued a not-so-veiled threat to foreign governments cooperating with President Donald Trump, warning them that Democrats will “not look kindly” on their actions once the Left regains power in Washington.

In a recent episode of the progressive “Pod Save America” podcast, Raskin ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee went on record suggesting that countries like El Salvador could face punitive action if they continue working with the Trump administration.

The comments came in response to El Salvador President Nayib Bukele’s refusal to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant and alleged gang affiliate who was deported under Trump’s orders. The Biden-appointed court had tried to block the deportation, but the Supreme Court sided with Trump, and Bukele complied.

Now Democrats are furious.

Raskin and podcast host Tommy Vietor floated options including cutting off aid and criminally prosecuting foreign leaders simply for honoring lawful cooperation with the current U.S. administration.

“If and when we come back to power and we will we are not going to look kindly upon people who facilitated authoritarianism in our country,” Raskin warned.

Let that sink in: A sitting congressman is threatening foreign nations simply for respecting the constitutional authority of a U.S. president they don’t like. It’s not diplomacy. It’s political blackmail.

  • Raskin’s threat was in direct response to Bukele’s decision to stand with Trump on border enforcement and deportation policy.

  • The Supreme Court recently upheld Trump’s use of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act, clearing the way for mass deportations of dangerous foreign nationals.

  • Bukele has become a rising star among nationalists for cleaning up crime and cooperating with U.S. law enforcement now Raskin wants to make an example of him.

Republicans slammed the remarks as unhinged.

“They haven’t learned a single lesson,” said Richard Grenell, Trump’s former acting Director of National Intelligence. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) added, “They aren’t coming into power any time soon if things continue as they are… that’s the only silver lining in their chaos and lunacy.”

What Raskin and the Democrats call “authoritarianism,” most Americans call law and order. Under Trump, violent crime dropped, border security tightened, and foreign governments finally started taking the U.S. seriously again. Now, with Trump poised to return in 2025, Democrats are resorting to open threats to reassert their globalist agenda.

This is not normal. This is not how responsible elected officials act.

The message from Raskin was loud and clear: Cooperate with Trump, and you’ll face consequences if the Left gets back in power. It’s the kind of statement you’d expect from a petty tyrant not a lawmaker in the U.S. Congress.

But if Democrats think the world is going to wait around and bow to their threats, they’re in for a rude awakening. America is leading again and this time, the message is simple: Follow the law, or step aside.
