Pritzker Threatens Response After Trump Vows to Deploy National Guard to Chicago

As crime spirals, Illinois leaders would rather play politics than protect their own citizens.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has officially entered a public standoff with President Donald Trump over the possibility of deploying the National Guard to Chicago a city that remains a national symbol of lawlessness, corruption, and violent crime.

Trump, in a move reminiscent of his zero-tolerance stance during his first term, recently floated the idea of federal intervention in Chicago after yet another bloody weekend left 6 people dead and 27 wounded in crime sprees across the city.

But instead of welcoming federal help, Governor Pritzker doubled down, issuing what amounted to a political threat:

“We will not stand idly by if he decides to send the National Guard to intimidate Chicagoans. Action will be met with a response.”

A response? From a state that’s failed to control its own cities for years?

Pritzker’s tantrum was echoed by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who called the potential deployment “unlawful,” “uncoordinated,” and “unsound” despite his own police department’s data showing crime is still significantly higher than in 2021. While homicides and shootings may have dropped somewhat from 2023, Chicago is nowhere near safe.

This is what happens when ideology overrides duty:

  • In 2022, Chicago experienced over 700 homicides the highest in the nation.

  • Carjackings were up more than 200% from pre-pandemic levels.

  • The city has seen record out-migration, with working families fleeing in droves.

And yet, Pritzker insists there is “no crime emergency” in Chicago. Instead, he accuses Trump of trying to “manufacture a crisis” and calls the National Guard’s presence “unconstitutional” and “un-American.”

Un-American? What’s un-American is letting children die in gang crossfire and turning a blind eye to the chaos devouring neighborhoods while labeling any attempt to restore law and order as “tyranny.”

President Trump fired back, calling Pritzker “incompetent” and Mayor Johnson “no better,” stating plainly. “Make Chicago Great Again!”

Unlike the Biden White House, Trump is actually willing to enforce law and protect innocent lives even when it means confronting weak Democratic leaders more worried about “optics” than outcomes.

At the end of the day, Pritzker and Johnson are far more concerned about their political base than the blood on their streets. They talk about “trust” and “unity,” but it’s the law-abiding citizens of Chicago who are betrayed every single day.

And if the governor’s response to Trump’s offer of help is “bring it on,” then maybe it’s time Illinois voters brought them all home.
