Ayanna Pressley Slams Texas Redistricting While Sitting in a Gerrymandered Seat

Critics blast Squad member for hypocrisy as she defends AWOL Texas Democrats from her own rigged district.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) wants you to believe she's fighting for "democracy" unless, of course, that democracy happens to expose Democratic power grabs in her own backyard.

This week, the far-left Squad member took to X to slam Texas Republicans for what she called a “cowardly, undemocratic power grab” in their redistricting efforts never mind that her own congressional seat is one of the most blatantly gerrymandered districts in the nation.

“What Republicans are doing in Texas is a cowardly, undemocratic power grab meant to silence voters,” Pressley posted. “Solidarity with Texas Democrats using every tool to fight back.”

The irony didn’t go unnoticed.

Conservative commentator Gerry Callahan fired back with a map of Pressley’s own district, writing. “The woman who represents this district wants you to know gerrymandering is a cowardly, undemocratic power grab.”

He’s not wrong. Pressley’s Massachusetts district drawn by Democrats who’ve controlled the state legislature for decades is carved out with surgical precision to ensure far-left dominance. Despite former President Trump winning 36% of the vote in Massachusetts, Republicans hold 0 out of 9 congressional seats. That’s not democracy that’s design.

Andrew Follett added, “This is what your Congressional District looks like … it is obviously quite gerrymandered!”

Even Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) got in on the action, pointing to the Democrats’ double standard. “Dems only call it ‘gerrymandering’ when it’s in a Republican state. When it happens in Illinois, they call it ‘democracy.’”

Pressley’s outcry came as Texas Democrats fled the state to avoid voting on new congressional maps that could give Republicans five additional seats. Rather than debate and vote, more than 50 Texas Democrats broke quorum and ran off to Illinois a state that, coincidentally, also benefits from hyper-partisan Democrat-drawn maps.

Republican Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton aren’t taking the stunt lightly. Both officials have said they’ll pursue legal action against the AWOL Democrats, including potentially declaring their seats vacant if they don’t return by Friday to do the jobs they were elected to perform.

Let’s be clear about what’s really happening here:

  • Texas Republicans are using legal and constitutional processes to redraw district lines in line with recent population growth.

  • Democrats who can’t win the vote are once again sprinting out of town, just like they did in 2021, to stall the process.

  • And prominent Democrats like Pressley and even Barack Obama are parroting the same talking points about “democracy” while ignoring the blatant gerrymandering in deep-blue states like Massachusetts and Illinois.

You can't lecture Americans about “fair maps” when your own seat looks like it was drawn by Picasso with a political vendetta. Pressley’s outrage isn’t about protecting voters it’s about protecting power.

When Democrats manipulate maps, they call it “equity.” When Republicans do it by the book, they call it “a threat to democracy.” That’s not principle it’s propaganda.
