Katie Porter Melts Down When Asked About Trump Voters
Democrat hopeful for California governor storms out of interview after being asked basic questions every other candidate answered.

Former California Congresswoman Katie Porter is already floundering in her bid to become the state's next governor and she’s not even past the interview stage yet.
In a recently resurfaced interview that aired mid-September but only gained traction this week, Porter sat down with CBS reporter Julie Watts and promptly unraveled the moment she was asked a question that wasn’t spoon-fed or pre-approved.
Watts asked Porter what should have been a simple question: What is your plan to reach the 40% of Californians who voted for Donald Trump in 2024? Instead of offering a reasonable strategy to appeal to a massive voting bloc in the nation’s most populous state, Porter bristled, grew combative, and ultimately walked out of the interview.
Here’s how it went off the rails:
When asked about reaching Trump voters, Porter dismissed the premise entirely: “How would I need them in order to win, ma’am?”
She insisted she would win by simply capturing all non-Trump voters, even though California’s “Top-Two” primary system makes such assumptions risky and out-of-touch.
When pressed on how she planned to avoid facing another Democrat in the general election, Porter bizarrely claimed she would “build the support” and appeared flustered when asked follow-up questions about her own answers.
Porter, a progressive darling known more for viral videos than real leadership, repeatedly dodged follow-ups and grew visibly angry, telling Watts she was being “unnecessarily argumentative.” After just a few rounds of basic political questioning, she declared: “I’m going to call it,” abruptly ending the interview and removing her microphone.
Let that sink in a gubernatorial candidate, who previously claimed to win over GOP voters in purple Orange County, couldn’t answer a basic question that every other candidate handled without issue. And she expects to run California?
It’s not hard to see why Porter is already coming off as entitled and unprepared. She just lost a Senate primary to Adam Schiff a man who spent the last four years lying to the American people about Russia collusion and leading bogus impeachment witch hunts. That’s who Democrats thought was more fit for higher office.
California is in free fall under Democrat rule. Homelessness has soared past 181,000 statewide, up 20% in just the past three years. The state is hemorrhaging businesses and middle-class families, and yet the Democratic bench keeps throwing out failed politicians like Newsom, Schiff, and now Porter, who can’t even handle a basic media question without stomping out.
This is what happens when a party rules without accountability: their candidates don’t know how to answer for their records, explain their positions, or speak to anyone outside their Twitter bubble.
If Porter can’t handle a polite, fact-based question from a mainstream journalist, how exactly does she plan to govern the fifth largest economy in the world?
The good news? Californians and Americans at large are waking up. The Democrats’ arrogance is catching up with them, and 2024 is shaping up to be a reckoning at the ballot box.
