POLITICO Ownership Board Member Blasts Outlet for Publishing Hamas Propaganda

Even insiders at the highest levels of the media world are now admitting what many Americans have long suspected mainstream outlets are pushing Hamas propaganda, often under the guise of “journalism.”

This week, Martin Varsavsky, a board member of Axel Springer, the German media giant that owns POLITICO, publicly condemned the publication for running a piece he rightly labeled “one-sided Hamas support.”

The article in question, originally from the Associated Press and reposted by POLITICO, irresponsibly cited death toll numbers provided by Hamas’ so-called Gaza Health Ministry notorious for inflating and fabricating casualty figures to vilify Israel. Worse yet, it downplayed the fact that Israel’s airstrikes are targeting Hamas leadership and military infrastructure, instead painting a manipulative picture designed to tug at heartstrings and ignore facts.

Varsavsky didn’t mince words “I am on the board of Axel Springer that owns POLITICO. I consider this article one sided Hamas support. It fails to mention that the airstrikes were aimed at eliminating top Hamas military and that Israel was successful at doing so. It also quotes casualty figures given by Hamas that are not believed to be accurate.”

The Associated Press has a long, checkered history of cozying up to Hamas propaganda:

• In 2021, AP operated out of a building shared with Hamas in Gaza a building later destroyed by the Israeli military after issuing advanced warnings.

• Just last year, 80 media outlets, including AP, were forced to issue corrections after falsely reporting over 40,000 civilian deaths in Gaza, based solely on inflated claims from Hamas-controlled sources.

• Israel’s own estimates indicate that over 17,000 of those killed were Hamas terrorists, not civilians, a crucial fact often buried deep in biased reports.

Yet, despite this well-documented manipulation, outlets like POLITICO and AP continue to regurgitate Hamas talking points, framing Israel’s defense against terrorism as unwarranted aggression.

Varsavsky’s public criticism shines a rare light on the blatant double standards and dishonesty within the media. His remarks highlight how far legacy outlets have strayed from real journalism in favor of pandering to leftist narratives, even if it means laundering terrorist propaganda.

This is exactly why Americans are increasingly turning away from corporate media. They’ve had enough of dishonest reporting, enough of one-sided coverage, and enough of narratives that sympathize with groups like Hamas recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, European Union, and other Western nations.
