Nancy Pelosi Falsely Links Husband’s Attacker to Trump’s Rhetoric
Former Speaker pushes baseless claim about Paul Pelosi’s 2022 attack.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is once again attempting to tie the 2022 attack on her husband, Paul Pelosi, to President-elect Donald Trump despite zero evidence supporting such a claim.
In an interview on CBS News’ Face The Nation, Pelosi suggested that Trump’s rhetoric was responsible for the violent home invasion that left her husband injured.
Pelosi made the unsubstantiated claim while discussing Trump’s willingness to review January 6 cases for potential pardons. “Now, it didn’t end that day,” she said, referring to the 2021 Capitol riot. “As you know, he called out to these people to continue their violence, my husband being a victim of all of that, and he still has injuries from that attack.”
This is blatantly false. The man who attacked Paul Pelosi, David DePape, was a deranged, illegal immigrant from Canada with a long history of mental illness. Court documents and police reports confirmed that he was not a Trump supporter, nor was he connected in any way to January 6.
DePape broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco home in October 2022, allegedly looking for Nancy Pelosi. He assaulted Paul Pelosi with a hammer before being subdued by law enforcement. DePape’s online footprint showed a bizarre mix of conspiracy theories and far-left extremism, undermining any attempt to paint him as a Trump-inspired attacker.
Even mainstream outlets like The Washington Post acknowledged that DePape’s actions were not politically motivated in the way Pelosi claims. Yet, that hasn’t stopped her from pushing the falsehood that her husband was a “victim” of Trump’s words.
Pelosi’s attempt to blame Trump is a desperate effort to keep the January 6 narrative alive as Trump prepares to take office again. During the interview, she also accused Trump of having “conned” the American people about the Capitol riot.
“The President said he would go on a case-by-case basis,” she admitted, while still trying to paint all January 6 defendants as violent insurrectionists.
This is not the first time Pelosi has distorted the truth to attack Trump, and it likely won’t be the last. As the left struggles to accept Trump’s return to power, expect more attempts to rewrite history and smear political opponents with outright falsehoods.
