Democratic Senator Shares Performance Blaming Trump for ‘Nearly Killing Thanksgiving’

Patty Murray’s dramatic SNAP meltdown gets roasted by Justine Bateman in brutal review.

In what may be one of the most tone-deaf political stunts of the year, Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) posted a dramatic performance video blaming President Donald Trump for allegedly “denying” Americans food assistance just days before Thanksgiving. But instead of rallying sympathy, she got publicly torched not by a conservative firebrand, but by actress and director Justine Bateman, who delivered a savage and hilarious review.

Murray, who voted repeatedly to keep the government shut down, claimed that Trump had almost single-handedly ruined Thanksgiving by fighting back against Democratic efforts to misuse the SNAP (food stamp) program as political leverage. She insisted that Republicans were making “immoral” cuts to food assistance, despite the fact that she and her fellow Democrats were the ones voting to block resolutions that would have kept benefits flowing.

“It’s nearly Thanksgiving and everyone should remember that Trump fought all the way to the Supreme Court to deny families SNAP benefits this month,” she posted, adding that the GOP had passed “the largest cuts to SNAP in history” a claim that has been widely debunked and taken out of context.

The performance itself if you can call it that quickly became a meme-worthy moment after Bateman eviscerated it with the precision of a film school professor grading a freshman project.

“The actress appears to be at once under-rehearsed, and also weary of the task of performing,” Bateman said, describing the overall tone as forced and emotionally flat. “The resulting dialogue delivery is halting. Awkward pauses within the compound word ‘Thanksgiving’ and before some prepositions are perhaps an effort by the actress to sabotage the piece itself.”

But it wasn’t just the acting that was off. Bateman absolutely shredded the video’s staging and setting, noting the haphazard lighting, vertical camera orientation, and an utterly confusing bathroom-stall-like background.

“The setting is extremely distracting,” Bateman wrote. “The first impression is that the actress is standing in a bathroom stall. The low wall on her left as the semi-private partition. The orange object on the floor appears to be a toilet.”

By the time Bateman finished her roast, Murray’s video had turned into an online spectacle not for its political message, but for its amateur production and melodramatic tone, which made her sound less like a concerned public servant and more like a failed community theater understudy.

More importantly, Murray's claim that Trump somehow fought to "deny" families SNAP benefits ignores one key fact: it was Democrats like her who repeatedly voted against compromise bills to reopen the government and keep critical programs running. Instead, they chose political theater over practical solutions and now they’re scrambling to blame Trump for their own obstruction.

While the Left plays drama queen in badly lit bathroom stalls, Trump is focused on action: ending illegal immigration, cracking down on fentanyl, negotiating peace abroad, and securing the economy. And if the 2024 election goes the way it’s trending, there won’t be much of an audience left for Murray’s next performance.
