Obama Mocked After Calling for Politics-Free DOJ and Courts

Critics slam former president’s hypocrisy after years of targeting conservatives and pushing the Trump-Russia hoax.

Former President Barack Obama is facing blistering backlash after a video clip went viral this week showing him decrying political influence in the Department of Justice, FBI, and U.S. court system remarks many say are drenched in hypocrisy.

Speaking on comedian Marc Maron’s podcast, Obama attempted to criticize the Trump administration's tough-on-crime policies, specifically referencing the use of ICE agents and National Guard troops to restore order in crime-ridden cities. But when he veered into commentary on America’s justice system, the former president triggered an irony tsunami online.

“We don’t want kangaroo courts and trumped up charges,” Obama said. “We want our court system and our Justice Department and our prosecutors and our FBI to be, just playing things straight and looking at the facts and not meddling in politics the way we’ve seen lately.”

Cue the laughter and the outrage.

Within minutes, critics torched Obama for the very thing he claimed to oppose: politicizing federal institutions. Many pointed to his administration’s long and well-documented history of weaponizing the DOJ, IRS, and FBI against political opponents and private citizens who didn’t share his worldview.

Just a few lowlights from the Obama era:

  • The IRS scandal, where conservative nonprofits were systematically targeted and harassed by Lois Lerner’s division for their political leanings.

  • The DOJ’s attack on the Little Sisters of the Poor, forcing a Catholic charity to fight for its religious freedom all the way to the Supreme Court.

  • Wiretapping journalists, including the surveillance of Fox News reporter James Rosen and even the Associated Press.

  • And most famously, the birth of the Trump-Russia hoax, orchestrated with intel agencies and later discredited but not before it ignited years of investigations and media hysteria.

“Irony alert,” Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) posted in response. “His legacy is trash and he knows it,” added Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO). Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) didn’t mince words: “Says the guy who presided over the fabrication of the Russian collusion narrative and the IRS targeting of conservatives…”

Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) summed it up perfectly:

“Barack Obama has no business lecturing anyone about ‘playing things straight.’ He set the standard for political meddling, and thank goodness President Trump is there to clean up the mess.”

Even actor Nick Searcy joined in, saying, “The audacity of hypocrites like @barackobama is breathtaking.”

Obama’s podcast comments, filled with vague, meandering platitudes about “being vigilant” and “standing up,” came off as out-of-touch and completely detached from his actual record. For eight years, Obama’s administration turned the most powerful institutions in the country into blunt instruments of political warfare.

Now, he wants to pretend that politicized justice is a new problem and that he’s the one to warn us about it?

“This is parody, right?” asked Senator Mike Lee (R-UT). It might as well be.

At a time when Americans are rightly skeptical of federal agencies, and trust in institutions like the DOJ is at historic lows, Obama’s gaslighting attempt is more than just hypocritical it’s insulting.

As President Trump continues to undo the weaponization of government and restore credibility to U.S. institutions, Obama’s revisionist podcast tour feels like little more than a desperate bid to salvage a legacy of lies.
