Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao Reacts Angrily After FBI Raids Her Home

Far-left Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao erupted during a press conference this week after federal law enforcement agents conducted a raid on her home. The raid, carried out by more than a dozen agents late last week, involved the removal of various items, including paper boxes, clipboards, and large plastic tubs.

The investigation extended beyond Thao’s residence, targeting several other properties linked to a politically influential family responsible for the city’s curbside recycling program.

“I want to be crystal clear: I have done nothing wrong,” Thao emphatically stated on Monday. “I can tell you with confidence that this investigation is not about me. I have not been charged with a crime, and I am confident that I will not be charged with a crime because I am innocent.”

Thao demanded to know the basis for the FBI’s actions, questioning the “probable cause” for the search. Former FBI special agent Stuart Kaplan clarified that authorities are not legally required to disclose the affidavit supporting the warrant.

“What evidence have they collected that justifies raiding the home of a sitting mayor without notice and without the courtesy of a conversation?” Thao asked. She further insinuated that powerful adversaries were behind the investigation. “I want to know more about the handful of billionaires from San Francisco and Piedmont who are hell-bent on running me out of office. I want to know why the day following the qualification of a recall election, funded by some of the richest people in the Bay Area, seemed like the right day to execute a warrant.”

Thao claimed that “radical right-wing forces” were attempting to seize control of Oakland by forcing her out through a criminal probe. She firmly stated, “I will not be bullied and I will not be disparaged and I will not be threatened out of this office.”

The dramatic raid and subsequent press conference have ignited a firestorm of controversy, with many questioning the motives behind the investigation and the implications for Oakland’s political landscape.
