New NYC Statue Replaces Heroes With Woke Symbolism
Times Square unveils massive statue of fictional obese woman to “contrast” historic monuments of white men because tearing down greatness is the Left’s new religion.

New York City has once again made headlines not for celebrating greatness, but for replacing it. This week, Times Square Arts unveiled a towering statue of an overweight black woman, fictionalized and unnamed, as part of a so-called art installation meant to “contrast” the monuments of historic white men. And yes, the statue is literally being compared to Michelangelo’s David a move so absurd it feels like parody.
The piece, titled Grounded in the Stars by British artist Thomas J Price, is being celebrated by the city’s arts bureaucracy for “amplifying marginalized bodies” and “challenging traditional narratives.” But for everyday Americans, it’s a glaring reminder of the Left’s obsession with tearing down greatness in favor of grievance-based symbolism.
According to the official description, the woman is not real. She’s a composite of “observations and open calls” between Los Angeles and London. The statue is explicitly designed as a “contrast” to the permanent monuments of two white male historical figures nearby figures whose legacies actually meant something.
In other words: this isn’t art it’s activism. And it's been installed at the very crossroads of America’s cultural heartbeat, Times Square.
Let’s be clear about what’s happening here:
Statues of real American heroes like Thomas Jefferson and George Washington are being removed across the country for being “problematic.”
In 2021, NYC removed a statue of Jefferson from City Hall because of his alleged “racism.”
Now, instead of honoring historical greatness, the city is erecting tributes to anonymous characters who have contributed nothing tangible to our nation’s legacy unless you count “representation” as an achievement.
Conservative commentator Matt Walsh put it plainly:
“They tear down statues of American heroes and replace them with statues of random obese black women. That’s because the Left has no historical heroes.”
And he’s right.
This isn’t about art, history, or equality. It’s about replacing identity with ideology. The Left doesn’t want statues that challenge us to remember courage, sacrifice, or innovation they want symbols of political correctness that flatter the present moment and shame the past.
As Allie Beth Stuckey noted:
“Statues aren’t just art. They’re markers of who we are and what we stand for. But the Left doesn’t want heroes, they want a blank slate to push their woke agenda.”
And that’s exactly what this statue is: a blank slate. A fictional woman, created in a lab of social justice tropes, dressed in generic clothing, with no name, no legacy, and no reason to be honored except that she "contrasts" with men who changed history.
The message is simple: America’s past is a problem, and its future will be built on fiction.
So while real statues are being melted down or locked away, we now have a new idol for the age of mediocrity a nameless, made-up figure whose only claim to fame is what she isn’t: a white man.
If that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about our cultural trajectory, nothing will.
