Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem made headlines Thursday as she stood at Port Everglades in South Florida overseeing one of the largest drug seizures in U.S. history sending a strong message to drug cartels and criminals who seek to exploit America’s borders.

In a decisive display of law enforcement strength, Noem announced the offloading of over 22.5 tons (45,000 pounds) of cocaine and 50 pounds of marijuana, a haul valued at more than $500 million. The operation was the result of 14 successful interdictions carried out by U.S. Coast Guard cutters, working in coordination with air crews and law enforcement agencies across the Pacific region.
