Gavin Newsom Tries to Ban ICE Masks, Feds Say 'Nice Try'

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed yet another grandstanding piece of legislation this weekend one that seeks to ban Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from wearing masks while making arrests. But federal law enforcement isn’t playing along.

Dubbed the “No Secret Police Act,” the law is supposed to force ICE agents to show their faces while conducting immigration enforcement operations in California. The move, transparently designed to pander to the open-borders Left, comes amid President Trump’s sweeping nationwide deportation campaign and a staggering 1,000% increase in assaults on ICE officers.

But here’s the problem for Newsom: he has zero authority over federal agents.

According to ICE sources speaking directly with The Daily Wire, the law is “meaningless” in practical terms. One agent summed it up bluntly:
“Nice try by Newsom, but he knows it doesn’t apply to federal agents. He loves stirring the pot so that people find more ways to bring conflict to ICE.”

Let’s be clear about what’s really going on here:

• ICE agents are wearing masks to protect themselves from doxxing, physical attacks, and harassment.

• Left-wing agitators have launched online databases to expose officers’ identities, putting their families in danger.

• Over the summer, rioters in Los Angeles blocked highways, torched cars, and threw concrete at ICE and DHS agents.

• Trump responded by deploying 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to restore order.

Yet Newsom ever the defender of illegal immigration and chaos stood at a podium and warned that masked ICE agents are creating a “dystopian sci-fi movie” atmosphere. He actually claimed federal officers were making people “disappear” without due process.

That’s pure propaganda.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin shredded Newsom’s stunt, calling the law a “despicable” and “flagrant attempt to endanger” the lives of federal officers.

“While our federal law enforcement officers are being assaulted by rioters and having rocks and Molotov cocktails thrown at them,” McLaughlin said, “a sanctuary politician is trying to outlaw officers wearing masks to protect themselves from being doxxed and targeted by known and suspected terrorist sympathizers.”

She also made it clear that federal law trumps California's activist posturing. And the federal government will prosecute those who try to expose ICE agents’ identities or interfere with enforcement operations.

ICE agents are arresting violent, criminal illegal aliens not soccer moms. And yet, the radical Left and its media enablers treat these officers as if they’re the criminals, not the ones protecting the American public from drug cartels, human traffickers, and repeat offenders.

The real dystopia? A governor more interested in defending illegal aliens and political optics than in safeguarding the citizens he was elected to serve.
