Gavin Newsom Refuses to Say if Eight Is Too Young for Gender Transitions

In a moment that perfectly captures the moral confusion of the modern Left, California Governor Gavin Newsom couldn’t bring himself to say whether an eight-year-old child is too young to undergo irreversible gender “transition” procedures.

During an appearance on The Shawn Ryan Show, Newsom was asked a simple, direct question “Is eight years old too young?”

Rather than give a straight answer, Newsom launched into a meandering, awkward response that revealed more about his political ambitions and ideological hang-ups than any real concern for children.

“Now that I have a 9-year-old just became nine. Come on, man, I get it,” he said vaguely. “It’s interesting, the issue of age, I haven’t… The trans issue for me is also novel… I’m trying to understand as much as anyone else.”

This isn’t some abstract debate. Newsom’s state, under his leadership, has become the national epicenter of radical transgender policies:

• California is officially a “sanctuary state” for minors seeking sex-change surgeries and puberty blockers, even without parental consent.

• Schools in California are legally permitted to hide a child’s gender transition from parents, sparking lawsuits and outrage from families across the state.

• Newsom signed legislation that protects out-of-state minors from their own parents if they travel to California for transgender procedures.

So when asked whether an eight-year-old should be allowed to make life-altering medical decisions, Newsom had no answer. Worse, he admitted that he once dismissed legitimate concerns simply because they came from conservatives.

“A lot of the pushback came from folks, candidly, that I didn’t respect… My next inclination was to dismiss it.”

Let that sink in: California's governor chose ideology over children's safety, ignoring red flags because they came from the "wrong" political side. And now, as he eyes a 2028 presidential run, he’s scrambling to reposition himself as “open-minded” while trying to dodge accountability for the real-world consequences of his policies.

Even the sports issue, which has exposed the absurdity of men competing in women’s athletics, was only a minor wake-up call for Newsom. But still no apology, no clarity, no protection for children.

This isn’t leadership it’s cowardice disguised as compassion. A leader should have the courage to say that eight-year-olds are too young for irreversible medical procedures. That should be common sense, not a political calculation.

But in Gavin Newsom’s California, ideology trumps innocence, and parental rights are optional.
