Newsom Blames Trump After Illegal Immigrant Kills Three in Truck Crash
Governor clashes with DHS over sanctuary policies as Biden-era approval allowed CDL for accused killer.

Three Americans are dead. A man who entered the country illegally is behind bars. And California Governor Gavin Newsom is busy pointing fingers at President Trump.
The tragic case of Harjinder Singh, the illegal immigrant accused of killing three Floridians in a horrific semi-truck crash, has now sparked a national firestorm. Singh, who illegally crossed the southern border in 2018, was granted a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in California, where sanctuary policies enabled him to operate a massive rig on American highways.
According to law enforcement, Singh made an unauthorized U-turn at a restricted “Official Use Only” zone on Florida’s Turnpike, crushing a minivan and killing all three passengers. He now faces charges for vehicular homicide and an ICE detainer.
Rather than taking any responsibility, Newsom’s office immediately deflected, attempting to blame the Trump administration for the tragedy. In a snarky social media post aimed at DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, Newsom’s press team claimed:
“Hey, genius: the federal government (TRUMP ADMIN) already confirmed that this guy meets federal and state immigration requirements YOU issued him a work permit (EAD).”
The graphic noted Singh entered in 2018 during Trump’s first term ignoring the fact that Newsom didn’t take office until 2019 as if that somehow shifted the blame.
But DHS wasn’t buying it. McLaughlin responded swiftly with the actual timeline:
Singh’s work authorization was rejected under Trump on September 14, 2020.
He was approved under Biden on June 9, 2021, after Democrats opened the floodgates on work permits for illegal immigrants.
California issued Singh his CDL after Biden’s approval, thanks to Newsom’s own sanctuary-state policies that continue to empower non-citizens with state privileges.
“False,” McLaughlin wrote. “Harjinder Singh is in the United States illegally... The state of California issues Commercial Drivers Licenses. There is no national CDL. Sincerely, Genius.”
Let’s be clear about what happened here:
California created the policy environment that allowed an illegal immigrant to gain a commercial driver’s license.
Biden’s DHS rubber-stamped his work authorization, despite the Trump administration previously denying it.
And Newsom, instead of confronting the deadly consequences of his own laws, chose to blame Trump, mock federal officials, and ignore the grieving families of three dead Americans.
This is what "leadership" looks like under the modern Democratic Party dodging accountability, mocking enforcement, and empowering illegal immigrants while innocent Americans die.
While Newsom positions himself for a future presidential run, he’s leaving a trail of chaos in his wake. Sanctuary policies aren’t harmless gestures. They carry real, deadly consequences and now three families in Florida are paying the price.
It didn’t have to happen.
