Newsom Appeals to Canadians with New Tourism Push ‘We Have So Much in Common’
As President Trump defends U.S. jobs with tough tariffs, California’s governor rolls out the red carpet for foreign tourists.

While President Donald Trump is taking bold action to protect American workers from unfair trade practices, California Governor Gavin Newsom is busy doing what he does best pandering to foreign elites and bashing the U.S. from within.
On Monday, Newsom launched a Canadian-targeted tourism campaign, inviting our neighbors up north to escape to California and forget all about what he called the “stirring up” from “you-know-who” in Washington. Of course, “you-know-who” is President Trump the only leader actually doing something to put America first.
In a video that feels more like a campaign ad for Justin Trudeau than a message from a U.S. governor, Newsom coos:
“California and Canada have always shared so much in common… California is the ultimate playground over 2,000 miles from Washington and a world away in mindset.”
And there it is. Newsom isn’t even hiding it. He wants California to be a separate ideological country one that sides with Canada over the Trump administration on critical trade policy. Instead of standing with the president to negotiate better deals for American manufacturers, farmers, and workers, Newsom is inviting foreign tourists to bypass the rest of the U.S. and spend billions in his progressive playground.
Here’s what this really is:
A political stunt from a 2028 White House hopeful desperate to appeal to international elites.
An economic gamble that puts California’s need for foreign spending ahead of American industry.
A veiled attack on President Trump, who recently imposed a justified 25% tariff on Canadian goods to counteract decades of unfair trade practices and market manipulation.
Let’s not forget: last year, nearly two million Canadians visited California, spending a staggering $3.7 billion in the state. That’s what Newsom is after more foreign money to fund his broken economy, overregulated industries, and bloated state bureaucracy.
Meanwhile, Canada isn’t just sitting back. They’ve launched their own billboard campaign in the U.S., whining about Trump’s tariffs and trying to turn Americans against their own president. This is the same Canadian government that slapped a 25% retaliatory tariff on $20 billion in U.S. goods hurting our farmers, truckers, and small manufacturers.
But instead of pushing back on Canada’s hypocrisy, Newsom is cozying up to Canadian politicians like British Columbia Premier David Eby. On Monday, they discussed “climate and trade,” which, in progressive-speak, means more green grift and more globalism.
Newsom’s statement says it all:
“California remains a steady, reliable partner open for business.”
Translation? California is open for business with anyone except conservative America.
This isn’t leadership it’s capitulation. It’s what we’ve come to expect from Newsom, who governs like a globalist ambassador rather than an American official. While Trump takes the hits to rebuild our economy, Newsom is chasing photo ops and foreign praise.
The contrast couldn’t be clearer. Trump is fighting for American jobs. Newsom is selling out for likes from Trudeau’s fanbase.
