Mullin Calls America’s National Debt a Growing Security Threat
Senator Markwayne Mullin warns that out-of-control spending puts the country at risk.

Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) isn’t mincing words when it comes to America’s growing national debt. During an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” he warned that the U.S. government’s reckless spending is becoming a direct threat to national security. And he’s absolutely right.
The U.S. is now spending nearly $1 trillion per year just to service its debt more than what is spent on the entire Department of Defense.
National payroll is the government’s single largest expense, making it nearly impossible to rein in spending without cutting bureaucratic bloat.
If the U.S. continues on this path, its credit rating could be downgraded, weakening the dollar and devastating the economy.
“We hate that anybody’s losing their job, but at the same time, we know that the debt that we have in this country is not manageable, and it’s becoming a national security risk,” Mullin explained. “Anybody will tell you that is a road for disaster.”
The numbers don’t lie. The U.S. national debt is now over $34 trillion, a figure that continues to climb under the Biden administration’s reckless policies. In 2023 alone, the U.S. added $2.6 trillion to the debt an unsustainable pace that could soon spiral out of control. If America gets downgraded, borrowing costs will skyrocket, and inflation will surge even further.
Mullin pointed out that when a country’s buying power weakens, its ability to fund military defense and global influence diminishes. “The ability to invest in our military starts shrinking, and then we start losing the strength part when we want to be at the negotiating table from peace through strength,” he said.
The solution is clear: Washington must slash wasteful spending, shrink the bloated federal workforce, and prioritize fiscal responsibility before it’s too late. But under the current administration, none of that is happening. Instead, Biden and the Democrats are doubling down on unsustainable spending, putting America’s future at risk.
If the U.S. government doesn’t act now, the country will be facing a financial catastrophe. It’s time to hold our leaders accountable before they bankrupt the nation.
