Elon Musk and Trump Administration Slam EU After $140M Fine on X
Musk calls to abolish the EU as Trump officials vow retaliation for attack on free speech and American tech.

Elon Musk and top Trump administration officials went scorched Earth on the European Union this weekend after Brussels slapped a $140 million fine on X, accusing the platform of violating the EU’s Orwellian Digital Services Act (DSA).
The move drew immediate condemnation from free speech advocates and America-first leaders, who called it what it is: a foreign attempt to control American companies and suppress free expression.
“The EU should be abolished and sovereignty returned to individual countries, so that governments can better represent their people,” Musk posted on X Saturday, adding the hashtag: #AbolishTheEU.
The fine, levied by the European Commission, claimed X’s paid verification feature the blue checkmark was “deceptive,” and cited “a lack of transparency” in its ad database and public data access for researchers.
But the message was crystal clear: this wasn’t about transparency it was about control.
Musk responded forcefully:
“The ‘EU’ imposed this crazy fine not just on X, but also on me personally, which is even more insane!”
“I love Europe, but not the bureaucratic monster that is the EU.”
And most directly: “Bull****.”
Trump administration officials backed Musk immediately and didn’t hold back.
“The fine isn’t just an attack on X, it’s an attack on all American tech platforms and the American people by foreign governments,” said Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“Foreign bureaucrats have zero right to tell Americans what they can and can't say,” added Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO).
FCC Chair Brendan Carr said it best “Once again, Europe is fining a successful U.S. tech company for being a successful U.S. tech company. Europe is taxing Americans to subsidize its own failure.”
Even before the fine dropped, Vice President J.D. Vance had warned “The EU should be supporting free speech, not attacking American companies over garbage.”
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick echoed that sentiment, saying the DSA is “designed to stifle free speech and target U.S. companies under the guise of transparency.”
Make no mistake: this isn’t about misleading design or ad disclosures. It’s about punishing Elon Musk for taking a stand against censorship. Ever since Musk acquired X (formerly Twitter) and turned it into a free speech platform, globalists have been trying to shut it down and now, they’re using regulatory warfare to do it.
The Digital Services Act, passed in 2022, claims to target “harmful content” and promote transparency. But in reality, it has become the EU’s blunt instrument for suppressing dissent, censoring conservatives, and protecting the establishment narrative.
Even more outrageous, the EU posted the fine announcement on X itself showing no shame in using the very platform they’re trying to strangle.
Meanwhile, President Trump has long warned about this kind of foreign interference, having previously blocked the AT&T-Time Warner merger out of concern for concentrated media power and anti-American agendas.
Now, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is calling on the Trump administration to impose retaliatory sanctions on the EU, declaring:
“This fine is an abomination… Trump should impose sanctions until this travesty is reversed.”
And that might just be the beginning. “America is done looking the other way while foreign governments seek to censor our people and bully our companies,” said Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL).
The Trump administration has made it clear. America will no longer bow to the EU’s globalist agenda. If Brussels wants a fight over free speech, they’re going to get one.
