Trump Administration Investigates Minneapolis for Racially Discriminatory Housing Plan

HUD cracks down on leftist housing agenda accused of violating civil rights law and prioritizing race over equal treatment.

Minneapolis is now under federal investigation for what may be one of the most blatantly discriminatory housing schemes in the country and the Trump administration is stepping in to stop it.

On Thursday, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) launched a civil rights investigation into Minneapolis' "2040 Plan" and its homeownership and rental initiatives, which appear to give preference to individuals based on race, ethnicity, and immigration status a clear violation of federal law.

At the center of the investigation is the city’s plan to establish so-called “cultural districts” and to prioritize “Black, Indigenous, People of Color and Immigrant communities” when allocating housing resources. According to HUD, this kind of race-based policymaking may violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Fair Housing Act, both of which prohibit discrimination based on race or national origin.

“That is not going to fly,” HUD Assistant Secretary Craig Trainor wrote in a letter to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, slamming the city for prioritizing race over individual need.

Let’s be clear this is not equity, it's illegal racial favoritism, and it undermines the very foundation of equal protection under the law.

HUD Secretary Scott Turner didn’t hold back, calling out Minnesota as “ground zero for fraud and corruption.” He pointed to a string of scandals in the state from widespread fraud in Housing Stability Services to mismanaged government aid programs all driven by what he described as a left-wing political agenda disconnected from reality.

“Minnesota is ground zero for fraud and corruption because they have chosen to ignore the law to serve a cynical political agenda,” Turner said. “We will not stand for illegal racial and ethnic preferences.”

Trainor went even further, criticizing Minneapolis’ leadership under Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey, calling the city’s governance a disaster “held captive to the riotous impulses of left-wing cultural arsonists.”

That language might sound harsh but it reflects a growing frustration from millions of Americans watching blue cities crumble under far-left social engineering. Under Frey’s watch, Minneapolis has become synonymous with chaos, soft-on-crime policies, and now, potential civil rights violations funded by taxpayer dollars.

This is not about denying help to minority communities it’s about ensuring that public funds are distributed fairly and legally, based on need, not skin color or where someone’s ancestors came from.

The Left loves to talk about “inclusivity,” but programs like Minneapolis’ 2040 Plan are exclusive by design. They divide Americans into groups, rewarding some and penalizing others, not because of merit or circumstance, but because of immutable traits. That’s not justice it’s systemic discrimination, enabled by progressive ideology.

The Trump administration has already begun clamping down on these abuses across the country. From housing to Medicaid to food stamp fraud, the message is clear: no more blank checks for broken, corrupt programs that reject accountability and the rule of law.

And it’s long overdue.

As the investigation unfolds, the people of Minneapolis and America should demand transparency, consequences, and a return to policies rooted in fairness, not identity politics.
