Around 2,000 Migrants in Caravan Heading Towards U.S. Border

Fear of Trump’s return fuels surge as immigration crisis intensifies ahead of election.

A caravan of approximately 2,000 migrants is marching toward the U.S. southern border, sparking renewed concerns about the ongoing border crisis just weeks before the presidential election between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. The group, originating from Tapachula, Mexico, near the Guatemalan border, includes migrants from Venezuela, Haiti, Honduras, and even countries in Africa.

The timing of this caravan is no coincidence. Many migrants fear the possibility that the Biden-Harris administration could be ousted in November, which would lead to the restoration of strict border security policies under a potential Trump presidency. Venezuelan national Joel Zambrano expressed his concern: “They say this could change because they could both close the CBP One appointment and all the services that are helping migrants.” The fear of a future administration enforcing the rule of law at the border has driven many migrants to make the dangerous trek now, while the border remains a sieve under current leadership.

The Biden-Harris administration has overseen a historic surge in illegal immigration since taking office in January 2021. Over 10 million people have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border under their watch, with an alarming 1.7 million recorded as “gotaways” illegal immigrants who managed to evade authorities altogether. This has placed a tremendous burden on U.S. cities and states, both large and small. Sanctuary cities like Chicago, Illinois, and even small towns like Springfield, Ohio, are struggling to provide basic services and housing to the influx of illegal migrants.

Kamala Harris, who previously avoided the immigration issue, is now attempting to pivot in a desperate bid to save her campaign. Despite presiding over one of the worst border crises in U.S. history, Harris is now portraying herself as a supporter of increased border security measures. In a recent campaign ad, she even featured an image of the border wall built under Trump, a striking reversal from her administration’s open-borders stance. “Those who cross our borders unlawfully will be apprehended and removed and barred from re-entering for five years,” Harris claimed during a rally in Arizona.

But voters aren’t buying it. Polls show that the majority of Americans do not believe Harris has clearly explained her stance on illegal immigration. Her attempts to distance herself from the disastrous policies she helped implement are fooling no one.

With millions of illegal immigrants already inside the U.S. and a new caravan headed for the border, it’s clear that the Biden-Harris administration’s incompetence on immigration is not only a national crisis but a decisive issue for the 2024 election.
