More Than 10 People Stabbed In Michigan Walmart Attack

Suspect in custody after shocking mass stabbing leaves multiple victims hospitalized.

A shocking mass stabbing at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, left at least 11 people wounded on Saturday afternoon, including three who required emergency surgery. Authorities say the suspect, a Michigan resident, is in custody, but details about his identity have not yet been released.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that all 11 victims were transported to Munson Medical Center. Sheriff Michael Shea described the attack as random and carried out with a “folding knife.”

“Be vigilant, know that no area is immune to this type of activity, unfortunately,” Shea warned during a press briefing.

Key details from the incident:

  • Witnesses reported chaos inside the store as the attacker targeted people seemingly at random.

  • Independent journalist Dave Bondy said one bystander reportedly drew a gun on the suspect but did not fire, possibly causing the assailant to stop.

  • FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed that federal agents are assisting local authorities in the investigation.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer released a statement expressing concern and gratitude for the quick actions of law enforcement and emergency personnel. “I’m in touch with law enforcement about the horrible news out of Traverse City,” Whitmer posted on X. “Our thoughts are with the victims and the community reeling from this brutal act of violence. I am grateful to the first responders for their swift response to apprehend the suspect.”

Traverse City, often dubbed the “cherry capital of the world,” is a small tourist destination along Lake Michigan with a population of just over 15,000. The incident has shaken the tight-knit community, which is known for its annual cherry festival and welcoming atmosphere.

Munson Medical Center confirmed in a statement that all 11 victims are receiving care. “Our thoughts are with all those affected by this event, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement for their swift action,” the hospital said.

Law enforcement has not yet revealed a motive for the attack, and investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and review surveillance footage from the store.
