Mexican President Rejects US Troop Presence After Trump Presses on Cartels

Claudia Sheinbaum pushes back on Trump’s call to crush cartels as Mexico spirals deeper into crisis.

Mexico’s newly installed president, Claudia Sheinbaum, is already making headlines for the wrong reasons this time by rejecting any possibility of U.S. military intervention to stop the drug cartels that have effectively taken control of large swaths of her country.

In a press conference Monday, Sheinbaum condemned U.S. foreign policy and doubled down on a defiant posture toward American involvement, despite mounting cartel violence, surging fentanyl trafficking, and collapsing internal security.

“I don’t believe in an invasion,” she said, brushing off former President Donald Trump’s continued warnings that the United States will act if Mexico doesn’t get its act together.

This comes just days after U.S. forces conducted a dramatic operation in Caracas, Venezuela extracting former dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who now face federal charges in New York, including narco-terrorism, machine-gun possession, and cocaine trafficking.

While Americans applauded the bold operation to bring a narco-tyrant to justice, Sheinbaum used the moment to criticize what she called “U.S. interventionism,” conveniently ignoring the fact that her own country is being held hostage by the same kind of violent, drug-running thugs.

Let’s be clear:

  • Over 100,000 people in the U.S. died from drug overdoses in 2023, much of it from fentanyl smuggled through Mexico.

  • Cartel violence in Mexico has surged, with over 30,000 homicides annually, many directly linked to cartel activity.

  • The DEA has classified Mexican cartels as the greatest criminal drug threat to the United States yet Sheinbaum claims U.S. help is "not necessary."

President Trump responded by calling Sheinbaum a “terrific person,” but reiterated the brutal truth: “The cartels are running Mexico.”

He’s right.

And what’s worse Sheinbaum admitted that Trump has repeatedly requested U.S. military access to dismantle the cartels, but she has rejected it every time. Her reasons? Defending “sovereignty” and claiming Mexico can handle it themselves. But if that were true, we wouldn’t be dealing with a record-breaking drug crisis pouring over our southern border.

This isn’t about sovereignty it’s about survival. American families are paying the price for a lawless southern neighbor unwilling to confront its own demons.

Sheinbaum insists her country is cooperating with the U.S. to fight organized crime. But cooperation without results is just a smokescreen. The flow of fentanyl hasn’t slowed. The cartels haven’t weakened. And Biden’s open border policies have only empowered these criminal networks.

The difference between Trump and Biden couldn’t be clearer. Trump is ready to act. Biden enables.

If Mexico refuses to take action, the U.S. must be prepared to act unilaterally. We don’t need lectures from a left-wing ideologue in Mexico City while our communities are flooded with poison and our border agents are outgunned by cartel militias.

The clock is ticking. America can’t afford to wait while Sheinbaum plays defense for the very criminals tearing her country and ours apart.
