Republican Mayra Flores Hospitalized After Launching Texas House Campaign

Conservative firebrand and former congresswoman is hospitalized just hours after announcing run against indicted Democrat Henry Cuellar.

Just hours after reigniting her campaign to take back a key congressional seat in Texas, Republican Mayra Flores has been hospitalized, her team announced Tuesday. The unexpected turn came shortly after Flores declared her intention to challenge embattled Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar, who is currently facing federal bribery charges alongside his wife.

The announcement, posted to X by Flores’ campaign team, asked supporters for prayers during what they called a “challenging time”:

“Former and future Congresswoman Mayra Flores, a devoted conservative fighting corruption in Texas’s 28th District, has been hospitalized. We pray that Mayra will return stronger than ever, ready to continue her unwavering commitment to serving our country.”

No details regarding her condition have been released, but the timing couldn’t be more dramatic.

Just earlier that day, Flores had taken to X to confirm her candidacy:

“I am deeply honored to announce my candidacy for Congress a chance to serve the people and uphold the values that make our nation great.”

Her decision to run again comes amid chaos on the Democratic side. Cuellar, her potential opponent, is under federal indictment for allegedly accepting bribes from foreign entities a scandal that could leave the district ripe for a Republican flip. Yet, even under legal scrutiny, Cuellar insists on maintaining his innocence while the case awaits trial.

Flores’ entry into the race presents a formidable challenge. She already made history in 2022 as the first Mexican-born woman ever elected to Congress, after flipping Texas’s 34th District in a stunning special election. Though redistricting handed the seat back to Democrats that November, Flores remained a rising star in the conservative movement, especially among Hispanic voters seeking real representation not radicalism dressed in cultural tokenism.

Texas’s 28th District is no safe haven for Democrats anymore. Once considered a blue stronghold, shifting demographics and increasing frustration with Biden’s border crisis and economic mismanagement have turned the region into contested territory. Flores' conservative platform focused on border security, family values, and fighting federal overreach has already struck a chord with voters eager for change.

In fact, recent polling shows that Latino support for Republicans is at a 20-year high, with many voters rejecting the progressive agenda in favor of faith, freedom, and economic opportunity.

Whether Flores recovers quickly or takes time to heal, her impact on this race is already undeniable. She represents the type of bold, unapologetic leadership Republicans need in the fight to restore sanity in Washington and take back the House in 2026.

The path ahead may be uncertain, but one thing’s for sure Mayra Flores isn’t going away. Not now. Not with corruption running rampant and conservative values under assault.
