Maryland Governor Rejects Reparations Commission Pushes $400 Million Redistribution Instead

Maryland’s Democratic Governor Wes Moore just made it clear he doesn’t want to talk about reparations anymore he wants to spend.

In a recent interview with left-wing radio host Charlamagne tha God, Moore, the only Black governor in America, tried to justify why he vetoed legislation that would have formed a Maryland Reparations Commission. That commission would have studied how the state could offer financial or other benefits to African Americans as restitution for slavery and systemic inequality.

But Moore made his position clear: “I don’t need more studies.”

Instead of seeking accountability or transparency through a study, Moore is charging ahead with his own form of reparations funneling $400 million in taxpayer funds into so-called “Just Communities” initiatives aimed at minority neighborhoods.

Here’s what that includes:

• $400 million in capital redirected to neighborhoods Moore claims were harmed by “racist and discriminatory policies” like redlining and highway construction

• Mass pardons targeting the criminal justice system, which he admits will “benefit” certain racial groups over others

• Procurement reform designed to create more Black millionaires in Maryland, openly prioritizing racial identity over merit

• Historic funding increases for HBCUs, as Moore claims they’ve been “historically neglected”

Moore's rejection of SB 587 the reparations study bill has frustrated far-left groups that wanted a more formal reparations pathway. The bill, sponsored by Democrat Sen. C. Anthony Muse, would have created a commission to recommend reparation benefits by 2027.

Despite that, Moore insists he’s more committed than ever to “action” action that bypasses real deliberation and puts massive amounts of public money into the hands of politically useful demographics, all under the label of “equity.”

While Moore claims to be focused on healing and support, what he’s really doing is cutting blank checks all while taxpayers foot the bill.

This is a dangerous precedent:

• Moore vetoed a study meant to explore options, while pushing full-scale programs that lack public input

• The governor is using racial identity as the primary criteria for state funding

• Prioritizing political expediency over sound economic policy, Maryland is now on the path toward a race-based redistribution model

And the timing couldn’t be more politically convenient. With Democrats hemorrhaging support among minority voters ahead of 2024, Moore’s “unapologetic” spending spree looks more like political bribery than genuine leadership.

This isn’t about equality it’s about securing votes and pushing woke redistribution schemes before the clock runs out on Biden’s failed term.
