Maryland Democrat Eyes Redistricting Lone GOP Rep Out of Congress

Governor Wes Moore calls it “fairness,” but it’s just another partisan power grab by Democrats desperate to hold on.

Democrats aren’t even pretending anymore.

Maryland’s Democrat Governor Wes Moore openly admitted Sunday that he’s considering redrawing congressional lines to eliminate the only Republican voice in the state’s ten-member congressional delegation. His target? Rep. Andy Harris, the lone GOP representative from Maryland’s 1st District.

Speaking on CBS’s Face the Nation, Moore claimed that gerrymandering Harris out of his seat would somehow make the map more “fair.”

“I want to make sure that we have fair lines and fair seats,” Moore said without a trace of irony.

Let’s be clear: there is nothing fair about targeting one of the last remaining conservatives in a deep-blue state just because Democrats don’t want him around. In the same breath that Moore decried politicians “choosing voters,” he laid out a plan to do exactly that manipulate the map to silence the will of over a third of Maryland voters who supported Donald Trump in 2024.

This isn’t about fairness. It’s about erasing opposition.

  • Maryland Democrats already control 9 out of 10 House seats despite Trump winning over 33% of the vote statewide.

  • The proposed plan would redraw the 1st District to cut out Harris’s conservative base, effectively turning the state into a one-party delegation.

  • It’s the same playbook Democrats are using in California, where Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to bypass the state’s independent redistricting commission to claw back five more seats for Democrats.

And Democrats have the audacity to accuse Texas and Florida of rigging elections?

Texas Republicans recently passed a new congressional map that gives them a shot at flipping five seats in their favor. It’s a response to decades of Democrat-led gerrymandering in states like Illinois, New York, and California. Republicans are finally playing by the same rules the left has been exploiting for years but now Democrats are crying foul.

The difference is, Republicans are fighting to level the field. Democrats like Moore, Newsom, and Hochul are trying to eliminate it altogether.

Moore’s statement is particularly revealing. He justified his redistricting plan by accusing Donald Trump of “putting his finger on the scale.” In other words, he wants to wipe out GOP seats not because of any unfairness, but because he disagrees with Republican policies.

This is what Democrats mean when they talk about “defending democracy” they mean defending their monopoly on power, even if it means silencing millions of voters.

They don’t want competition. They want control.

Americans should be alarmed. One-party rule is dangerous at any level, especially when it’s cloaked in buzzwords like “fairness” and “equity.” When a party openly brags about redrawing the map to eliminate its opponents, it’s not democracy it’s tyranny in disguise.
