Manchin Slams AOC Over Charlie Kirk Smear

Former West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin is sounding the alarm on the radical direction of the Democratic Party and this time, it’s over the Left’s disgraceful reaction to the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

In an interview with CNN’s Kasie Hunt, Manchin said he was “stunned” by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s decision to oppose a congressional resolution honoring Kirk, who was gunned down in a politically motivated attack just weeks ago.

Ocasio-Cortez, with her usual flair for venomous ideology, defended her “no” vote by claiming Kirk believed “the Civil Rights Act was a mistake” and rattled off a list of political positions to justify her refusal to honor a man who was just murdered for his views.

But for Manchin, the bigger problem is what this says about the state of the Democratic Party.

“If the Democrats if AOC and the far Left, the extreme Left I want to say believe that’s where the party is today, then that’ll tell you why you lost people like me,” Manchin said. “It’s getting worse, not better.”

He’s right. The Democratic Party that once claimed to be the party of the working class, free speech, and tolerance has devolved into a machine that only values voices in lockstep with its radical base.

Manchin pointed out the growing exodus of moderate voters and former Democrats:

• Over 160,000 Democrats have left the party since the last election, according to recent data.

• Many are switching to Independent or Republican registrations, particularly in key swing states.

• Polling continues to show a massive enthusiasm gap between disillusioned Democrats and energized conservatives heading into 2024.

Rather than honoring a man whose political work shaped a generation of young conservatives, AOC and her allies chose to use Kirk’s death as a springboard for character assassination. Reps. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ), Bennie Thompson (D-MS), and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) followed her lead, using the moment to smear Kirk instead of showing a shred of basic human decency.

This isn’t just political it’s cultural. The modern Left has fully embraced the politics of vengeance and division, where even the assassination of a prominent conservative figure is treated as an opportunity to double down on hate.

Charlie Kirk’s legacy will live on. His impact on millions of young Americans, his unapologetic love for the Constitution, and his ability to challenge the status quo made him a target and ultimately a martyr.

Joe Manchin, though far from perfect, is saying out loud what many moderate Democrats whisper behind closed doors: the far-Left has hijacked the party, and it’s not coming back.
