Letitia James Claims Trump Admin Framed Her, Demands Mortgage Fraud Case Be Tossed

New York AG accuses Trump-era officials of “outrageous government conduct” as she fights federal charges.

New York Attorney General Letitia James, once the Democratic Party’s favorite political attack dog against Donald Trump, is now singing a very different tune as the defendant in a federal mortgage fraud case that could bring down her career.

In a stunning reversal of roles, James filed a 22-page motion Monday demanding that all charges against her be thrown out, claiming the case is the result of “outrageous government conduct” under the Trump administration. Her legal team is now portraying her the same AG who campaigned on “getting Trump” as a victim of political persecution.

James stands accused of fraudulently obtaining a mortgage on a Virginia property by misrepresenting it as a second home then turning around and using it as a rental property to generate income. The tactic resulted in her securing a lower interest rate she otherwise wouldn’t have qualified for.

But instead of addressing the core of the case, James’ defense hinges on an argument that Trump officials weaponized the federal government against her something she herself has long been accused of doing against Trump.

Her attorneys targeted three federal officials by name:

  • Bill Pulte, Director of the Fair Housing Finance Authority, who referred James for prosecution, is accused of turning the agency into a tool to punish Trump’s political enemies.

  • Ed Martin, DOJ’s lead mortgage fraud prosecutor, who publicly called for James to resign, is slammed for allegedly violating professional ethics and pressuring James to step down.

  • Lindsey Halligan, the interim U.S. Attorney, is accused of running a “vindictive prosecution.”

“If this brazen, continuous disregard for the law and the Constitution is not outrageous government conduct, nothing is,” James’ filing claims.

The irony is thick: Letitia James built her political career by launching legally dubious cases against Donald Trump, often with cameras rolling and press releases drafted before the investigations even concluded. Now she wants the court to believe she’s the victim of a partisan takedown.

Let’s not forget:

  • James promised to go after Trump before she ever took office a clear sign of a politically motivated agenda.

  • She used her office to launch a sweeping civil case against the Trump Organization that critics say was built on flimsy claims and biased appraisals.

  • She’s refused to pursue serious criminal charges against fellow Democrats including in cases involving public corruption and campaign finance violations.

Now, facing a real federal criminal case herself, James is crying foul and blaming Trump. This is the exact same double standard Americans are sick of: when the Left prosecutes their enemies, it’s “justice.” But when they’re in the hot seat? Suddenly it’s political persecution.

This case cuts to the heart of accountability and hypocrisy in public office. If Letitia James broke the law to enrich herself by lying on mortgage applications and abusing lending loopholes she should face the same scrutiny as anyone else.

No more special rules. No more double standards.

And no more weaponizing the word “Trump” as a get-out-of-jail-free card.
