Las Vegas Police Cybertruck Bomber Was Active-Duty Green Beret, Died From Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound
Authorities investigating motive after explosion outside Trump International Hotel.
Las Vegas police have identified the man responsible for the Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside Trump International Hotel earlier this week as Matthew Livelsberger, a 37-year-old active-duty U.S. Army Green Beret. Authorities confirmed Thursday that Livelsberger died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound before the vehicle detonated.
Police were initially waiting on DNA verification to confirm Livelsberger’s identity due to the severity of his injuries. However, a government ID and passport belonging to him were found inside the vehicle.
Authorities also discovered:
Two firearms
Fireworks
Gas canisters
Other unidentified explosive materials
Livelsberger was reportedly on approved leave from Germany, where he was serving with the 10th Special Forces Group. Officials noted that the level of sophistication of the explosive device was not what they would expect from someone with his military experience.
While the location of the explosion outside Trump International Hotel and the use of a Tesla vehicle have raised suspicions about a possible ideological motive, authorities have not found definitive evidence to link the attack to any specific political or extremist agenda.
Though Livelsberger was the only fatality, several bystanders were injured in the explosion. The incident has sparked concerns over security and the potential for similar attacks.
The FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and local law enforcement continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion, including Livelsberger’s mental state, recent activities, and any potential ties to extremist groups.
With Livelsberger deceased, authorities will now focus on determining his motive, tracing the origins of the explosives, and assessing whether any additional threats remain. The incident has also prompted renewed discussions on domestic security threats and military personnel’s mental health.
