LA Mayor Joins Controversial Legal Fight Over Trump’s Immigration Policies

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is doubling down on her city’s defiance of federal law by joining a class-action lawsuit aimed at blocking President Trump’s immigration enforcement operations across Southern California.

Bass announced Tuesday that Los Angeles is intervening in the lawsuit “Vasquez Perdomo v. Noem”, which seeks to stop mass ICE raids that have ramped up under Trump’s renewed push to enforce border law and deport criminal aliens.

“We will not be intimidated,” Bass said in a statement. “We are making Los Angeles the example of how people who believe in American values will stand together and stand united.”

Translation? LA is standing with illegal immigrants not the American people and certainly not the rule of law.

The lawsuit, spearheaded by the ACLU of California and Public Counsel, alleges that ICE and Homeland Security are conducting “unconstitutional raids” that amount to racial profiling and violations of civil liberties. It’s a familiar narrative, pushed by far-left activists every time an administration tries to enforce federal law.

But this time, it’s different. The Trump administration isn’t blinking.

As part of its broader crackdown on sanctuary cities, federal agents have been conducting strategic raids across the Los Angeles region, including a recent high-profile operation at MacArthur Park, an area known for MS-13 gang activity. Footage of armored vehicles and DHS helicopters flying overhead sent a clear message: lawlessness is no longer tolerated.

That didn’t sit well with Bass, who accused Trump of using LA as a “test case” to push a political agenda.

“We will not stand by and allow these raids to continue or become standard operating procedure,” said City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto, claiming the city is “under siege” by federal troops.

Here’s what’s really happening:

• Trump is deploying ICE to sanctuary cities that openly refuse to cooperate with federal immigration law.

• LA’s leadership is more concerned with harboring illegal aliens than protecting legal residents.

• The lawsuit is a political stunt designed to shield criminals and undermine federal authority.

The Department of Homeland Security responded forcefully, calling the accusations of racial profiling “disgusting and categorically false.” DHS maintains that ICE is targeting known offenders, not random individuals based on ethnicity.

Meanwhile, the lawsuit claims that migrants are being held in “dungeon-like” facilities another theatrical accusation that conveniently ignores the reality: illegal border crossers are being detained and deported, not pampered.

Mayor Bass’s move is just the latest example of radical blue cities doing everything they can to defend lawbreaking while vilifying the very agents trying to clean up their mess. It’s no wonder Los Angeles has become ground zero for federal action and it won’t stop here.
