Kristi Noem’s DHS Badge and $3,000 Cash Stolen in D.C. Restaurant Theft

In yet another embarrassing snapshot of the growing lawlessness in Washington, D.C., Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had her handbag stolen from a restaurant Sunday night along with $3,000 in cash, her DHS badge, passport, and a host of other sensitive personal items.

The thief? An unidentified man in a surgical mask who calmly walked in, swiped the unattended purse, and exited undisturbed. The theft reportedly occurred under the noses of Secret Service agents, who later confirmed they had reviewed security footage of the incident.

The bag contained:

• Approximately $3,000 in cash, which DHS claimed was meant for “dinner, activities, and Easter gifts” for her visiting children and grandchildren.

• Noem’s official DHS badge, raising serious security concerns.

• Her passport, driver’s license, medications, apartment keys, blank checks, and other personal belongings.

While Noem acknowledged the theft during her appearance at the White House Easter Egg Roll, she said the investigation remains ongoing.

Let’s be blunt: this never should’ve happened. Not to a top federal official. Not in the capital of the United States. But under the current Democratic leadership in D.C., this kind of brazen, broad-daylight crime has become routine.

• Washington, D.C. saw a 26% increase in property crimes last year, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

• Robberies are up more than 40% since 2022.

• Carjackings, break-ins, and even attacks on federal agents have made the city one of the most dangerous in America’s urban core.

If this can happen to the Secretary of Homeland Security, it can happen to anyone.

And yet, we hear nothing but excuses from the Left. While Democrats cry foul over border enforcement and claim our streets are safe, one of the most high-profile women in government just had her official credentials and sensitive materials stolen within walking distance of the White House.

The response? A few canned statements and a shrug.

This isn’t about a purse. It’s about the complete collapse of law and order in a city that claims to be the center of American governance. The D.C. political class won’t protect you. They can’t even protect their own.

If the Democrats want to prove they're serious about security, maybe they should start by making sure their own backyard isn’t a magnet for thieves in surgical masks.
