Kim Jong Un Weeps Over North Korean Soldiers Killed Fighting For Russia

Propaganda pageantry reveals North Korea’s deepening role in Putin’s war in Ukraine.

In a bizarre and unsettling display of authoritarian pageantry, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un was shown in tears this week as he mourned the deaths of his own troops not from defending their own soil, but while fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine.

Broadcast on state-run Korean Central Television and confirmed by South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, the footage captured Kim placing a North Korean flag on a coffin during a dramatic performance at the East Pyongyang Grand Theater. The event commemorated the one-year anniversary of North Korea’s so-called “strategic partnership” with Vladimir Putin’s regime a euphemism for the axis of tyranny both leaders are cementing.

Here’s what we know:

  • North Korean soldiers were reportedly embedded with Russian forces in the Kursk region.

  • A bloodstained battlefield notebook was shown, containing propaganda slogans praising Kim and vowing loyalty “in this sacred battle.”

  • Russia’s own Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova attended the event, wiping away tears in a synchronized spectacle of state-manufactured grief.

Let’s not mince words: This is an international disgrace. North Korea, one of the world’s most brutal regimes, has gone from exporting weapons to now exporting fighters to prop up Putin’s crumbling war machine.

And while the Biden administration postures from behind podiums, Kim and Putin are building a real alliance on the battlefield.

Consider this context:

  • U.S. intelligence reported earlier this year that North Korea had supplied over 1 million artillery shells to Russia.

  • Satellite imagery confirmed North Korean cargo ships docking in Russian ports throughout late 2024 and early 2025.

  • Russia and North Korea signed a mutual defense pact last summer essentially formalizing a war alliance against the West.

This funeral was more than a show of grief. It was a statement of intent.

Kim wants the world to see him not just as a regional menace but a global actor willing to sacrifice North Korean lives for Russian imperialism if it means cementing his place on the world stage.

For Americans, this should be a wake-up call. We’re not dealing with isolated dictators. We’re watching the emergence of a 21st-century axis a new Cold War bloc that includes China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran all unified by a shared hatred of Western values and U.S. leadership.

President Trump has already warned that appeasement and weakness will only embolden these regimes. He’s right. It’s time to treat this as the global threat it is.
