Kamala Harris Signals Support for Using Taxpayer Funds on Transgender Surgeries for Inmates
Vice President defends controversial stance, claims Trump allowed the same under his administration.
Vice President Kamala Harris raised eyebrows during an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on Wednesday night when she signaled her support for using taxpayer dollars to fund transgender surgeries for prison inmates. The exchange came after Baier pressed Harris on a campaign ad from Donald Trump that highlighted her past support for these procedures, a position that has sparked significant controversy.
Baier confronted Harris with the ad, which showed her clearly stating that she supports “surgery for prisoners,” and asked if she still believes taxpayer money should be used for such procedures. Harris responded, “I will follow the law,” while attempting to pivot the issue back onto Trump.
“It’s a law that Donald Trump actually followed,” she claimed, referencing policies in place under Trump’s administration. Harris suggested that under Trump, transgender surgeries were available to federal prisoners on a “medical necessity” basis. However, Baier quickly pointed out that no such surgeries ever took place during Trump’s time in office.
The exchange didn’t end there. When Baier reiterated that Trump never promoted these surgeries, Harris lashed out, claiming that the former president was spending millions of dollars on ads designed to “create a sense of fear” rather than addressing the real issues facing Americans today.
Taxpayer-funded surgeries for transgender inmates have become a lightning rod issue, with critics arguing that it represents an unnecessary use of public funds, especially when American taxpayers are already burdened by inflation and rising costs.
Harris’ comments are likely to fuel even more backlash, as the majority of Americans oppose using taxpayer dollars to pay for elective gender surgeries, particularly for convicted criminals.
According to a 2022 poll, over 60% of Americans are against funding gender-transition procedures for prison inmates using public funds, highlighting the disconnect between the Biden-Harris administration’s policies and the concerns of everyday voters.
Harris, however, attempted to downplay the issue, suggesting that the Trump campaign’s focus on the matter was a distraction from more pressing problems. She claimed that Trump’s team spent $20 million on the ad to stir up fear, while ignoring more significant issues facing the American people.
But Harris’ response likely won’t satisfy critics, who see her stance as extreme and out-of-touch with the majority of Americans. As the Biden-Harris administration continues to push far-left policies, concerns about the direction of the country’s leadership are mounting, especially with the 2024 election looming.
This interview once again puts Harris in the hot seat, highlighting her struggle to defend unpopular policies while attempting to cast blame on her political opponents.
