Kamala Harris Craters When Pressed on ‘Turning the Page’ Slogan

Vice President struggles to explain how her administration differs from Biden's as polling shows widespread disapproval.

Vice President Kamala Harris found herself stumbling during an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on Wednesday when confronted with questions about her campaign's slogan, “A New Way Forward.” Baier pressed Harris to explain how her administration would be any different from President Joe Biden's after nearly four years in office, particularly when their slogan suggests it’s “time to turn the page.”

Baier pointed out the contradiction between the campaign's message and Harris’ tenure, asking, “What are you turning the page from?” Harris responded by blaming the division in the country on rhetoric from former President Donald Trump.

“Well, first of all, turning the page from the last decade in which we have been burdened with the kind of rhetoric coming from Donald Trump that has been designed and implemented to divide our country,” Harris said, pivoting to her usual attacks on Trump. She added that leadership should focus on "lifting up" Americans rather than dividing them.

However, Baier wasn’t satisfied with the answer and shifted focus to recent polling, revealing that 79% of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction under the Biden-Harris administration. With such dire numbers, he asked how they could continue to claim they’re "turning the page" when their leadership is already responsible for the current state of the country.

“If it’s on the wrong track, that track follows three and a half years of you being vice president and President Biden being president. That is what they’re saying 79% of them,” Baier pointed out.

Harris awkwardly responded by pivoting back to Trump’s candidacy, saying, “And Donald Trump has been running for office since” before Baier cut her off, reminding her that she and Biden are the ones currently in office.

The exchange exposed a glaring issue for the vice president: despite being part of the administration for years, she struggled to differentiate herself from Biden or defend their record. When pressed further, Harris attempted to deflect once again, leaving Baier exasperated.

“You have the lever of power,” Baier reminded her, highlighting the disconnect between the administration’s message and reality.

The awkward exchange is a reminder that the Biden-Harris team faces significant challenges as they gear up for 2024. With record-high inflation, skyrocketing crime, and a border crisis that shows no signs of abating, many Americans are questioning whether the administration is capable of offering real solutions. Harris’ inability to articulate a clear reason for voters to stay the course only fuels doubts about her leadership and her role in Biden's re-election efforts.
